Andy - Winter Programme Manager

Andy, Winter Programme Manager

My love of the winter was born during my 5 years as an Exodus leader. During this time I led numerous snowshoe trips in Italy and Switzerland, and started to discover the endless opportunities for adventure that this unique environment has to offer. Since then I've been lucky enough to travel to many of our destinations and try most of the winter disciplines. I hope you'll enjoy our latest range of activities.

Alistair

Alistair, Exodus Walking & Trekking and Winter Activities ExpertMy love of the snow in Winter stems from 9 months spent in the quintisentially Swiss cookoo clock strewn village of Wilderwsill near Interlaken, in the heart of the majestic Bernese Oberland, way back in 80's when Franz Klammer was the king of the Wengen downhill.

The lure of catching the very first lift on that first morning, the air crystal clear, a virgin snow fall freshly mashed against a backdrop of  azure skies with the spectacular Monch, Jungfrau & Eiger on the horizon after a night on the schnapps is the perfect remedy to the constant unremitting  grey, damp, skies of good 'old Blighty' during December and March. I'm off to Chamonix again for New Year...can't wait.

As Aztec Camera sang so eloquently 'Walk out to Winter, swear I'll be there' - couldn't have put better myself!

Amanda

Amanda, Exodus Winter Activities ExpertSo the mountains are great to look at but when they're covered in snow, an exciting new world is opened! After my first winter holiday almost 18 years ago, I am now on a mission to try every activity available in this white playground and thanks to Exodus, I am slowly but surely getting through them all. I learned cross-country skiing 3 years ago and enjoyed the slow pace that finally allowed me to appreciate the incredible winter landscape. My personal favourite is the Dolomites, where the limestone rock and jagged peaks, like Tre Cime di Lavarado, are still visible through the snow. With each valley offering a completely different panorama and the wonderful snowfall promised for next season, I can't wait to get out there again!

Andy

Andy, Exodus Winter Activities ExpertEver since the demise of the British winter i've always gone in search of snow and the fun and games that come with it. I've now moved on from the days of snowball fights and tobogganing (although occasionally i'm tempted back to that) and there's nothing i enjoy more than the serenity of a beautiful winter landscape. Within the last 4 years at Exodus i've given everything a go from the peacefulness of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to the adrenalin of dogsledding and snowmobiling. It's a wonderful feeling to wake up in the morning to the sound of your own team of dogs barking away ready for another day of mushing.

Chloé

Chloé, Exodus Winter Activities ExpertHaving enjoyed three ski seasons in the French Alps, it is fair to say I love the winter time.  After much frustration, falling over and eating snow, I finally learnt to snowboard and now try to head to the slopes at least twice each winter season.  I love visiting the mountains in March when there is still enough powdery snow to enjoy but it is warm enough to sit outside for long lunches in the sunshine of a slope side restaurant.  My favourite ski resort is Chamonix, surrounded by dramatic peaks and with four different ski areas and plenty of shops and bars, it has something for everyone.  I learnt to cross-country ski and snowshoe here on our 'Mont Blanc Winter Activities' trip and can't wait to go back there to do more.

David

David, Exodus Walking & Trekking and Winter Activities ExpertIf you think joining one of our Winter trips is all about wearing the latest winter fashions, boasting about those black runs whilst speeding away from an avalanche, or having years of experience from a young age then think again.  I didn't even try a ski or snow shoe on until I was in my 30s but with the expert guidance of Oliver, our leader on the Mont Blanc Winter Activity trip, I quickly picked up the basic skills required and had lots of fun plus a few bruises to show for it!  I haven't looked back since and am off to Finland soon to drive my own team of dogs on a dogsledding expedition.  Be prepared to fall over, be prepared for the inevitable snow ball out of the blue and have a great time on one of our mixed activity weeksThe destinations we visit are stunning!

Tom

Tom, Exodus Winter Activities ExpertMy first winter trip was a real eye opener; having not experienced anything quite like it before I couldn’t believe it had taken me so long to discover it, and I’ve been making up for lost time ever since. Nothing gets the blood pumping more than that first glimpse of the white stuff and over the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to visit some beautiful places. A majestic winter landscape still takes my breath away, whether I’m on skis, snowshoes or a snowmobile. It all adds up to a fantastic experience; stepping out of your daily environment into something so dramatic and beautiful is unbelievably exciting. Add to that some good company and you have the recipe for a great holiday, it’s no wonder I’m hooked!
