Bird Watching

The joy of birdwatching is that it can be enjoyed virtually anywhere in the world. Probably the best known areas are in Africa, India, the Amazon, Ethiopia, Costa Rica and the Galapagos. However many areas of Europe, especially Poland and Spain and lesser known areas such as Sri Lanka and Borneo also have fantastic bird populations. The draw of penguins, storm petrels and the remarkable albatrosses each year attract many to the Antarctic. Among the most spectacular birding sights are the nestings of the carmine bee eaters in Zambia in South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi between August and September and the huge flocks of quelea seen in the dry months. But whether it is bee-eater, kingfisher, barbet or babbler, roller, turacao, macaw or toucan, most wilderness holidays anywhere in the world offer the ornithologist many opportunities.
