Winter Activity Holidays in Slovenia

The idyllic town of Bled, built around a glacial lake with a church perched high on an island, is certainly what you would describe as a picture-postcard town.  However, when the lake freezes and the town covered with snow, you would be hard pushed to find a more breath-taking setting.  Winter in Slovenia also transforms the surrounding dramatic Julian Alps.  Heavy set with snow, this beautiful part of Slovenia is not too easily accessed, which is why it is so popular for those travelling by snowshoe.  After a day’s hike in the wilderness there is no more welcoming thought than relaxing in the warmth of a mountain hut that overlooks the surrounding valley, whilst sipping on snifter of blueberry schnapps.

Winter in Slovenia - Climate

Snow conditions in Slovenia are at their best from around December to March, with temperatures rarely reaching too far below zero. When the sun is shining it can become quite warm, which makes exploring in the mountains all the more enjoyable.
