It’s going to be a truly memorable year for Northern Lights activity. According to solar physicist Todd Hoeksema of Stanford University, around December our sun’s vast magnetic field will undergo a complete polar field reversal in an event which is has been coined “the Solar Flip”. As the solar winds reach their most turbulent at the peak of the solar flip, the Northern Lights, which are dictated by solar activity, will be displayed this winter at an intensity rarely ever seen.
The show is just getting started and Finland, Norway and Sweden have the seats. Make sure you get your tickets for the main event this winter as this is not one to miss!
Throughout the winter season we will be reporting back from our destinations in Arctic Scandinavia with regular updates on Northern Lights activity. By clicking on the various destinations in the interactive map below you will be directed to a blog for that particular area, on which will be posted updates to what has been spotted by our eager “aurora-hunters”. The aim is to bring you closer to the action than ever before so be sure to keep checking this page for the latest updates from the frozen north.
Keep your eyes to the skies!
