22km done!

Today was a tough but great day skiing. I went with the group to ski a 22km track from St Vigil to Peradu. As the track had kilometre markers on it I wanted to use the day as a guide for how long the marathon will take me (the answer I discovered is a blooming long time!!). It was an uphill slog for the first half and I don't think I would have made it in the time I did without having Roger and Jim, two experienced xc skiers chasing me all the way up. The descent way slightly more hairy with icy...

7 weeks to go!!

So I have realised I only have 7 weeks left to get ready for the ski marathon - a scary prospect. My training is coming along steadily - I managed to break the cross-trainer at the gym, I was aiming to cover 10km and the machine switched off at 9.8km! I also went to the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead with some friends, unfortunately not a place where you can practise cross-country skiing but it is great for snowboarding and skiing. Today was the first time the sun has shown itself for quite a while so my friend Lesley and I decided to make the most of it and go for a run in Richmond Park. Wearing my Christmas present to myself, a new spangley lycra number (if you can't beat them join them) we set off on the boggy tracks. Lesley has run several long distance races in her time and is signed up to do a...

The training has begun for the Engadine Ski Marathon

So this is it, the training has begun.....In under 3 months I will be taking part it one of my biggest challenges to date - the Engadine Ski Marathon. 26 miles of cross-country skiing along with 13,000 other contestants!

I'm typing this from Chamonix where I have come with some of the team from work to start my training. We have had a great day on the slopes with beautiful sunny skies and are now relaxing in the Chalet Savoy with a glass of wine. I'm slightly exhausted after trying to ...
