This winter season has started with a bang at Basecamp Oulanka. These two spectacular images were taken by photographer Jaakko Kaisto on the shores of the Lake Juuma next to Basecamp Oulanka. With zero light pollution at Basecamp Oulanka, there's no better place to see the dancing vivid colours of this natural phenomenon. And if you are lucky enough, they might just show themselves whilst you are sitting in the hot tub. Now wouldn't that be something......

In the last few months the lights in the Muonio region (which is the location of CFD: Finnish Dogsledding Adventure) have been out in full force painting the skies with brilliant blues and greens. This stunning selection of photographs were taken by Harriniva aurora photographer Antii Pietikainen. There could be no more perfect setting for a dogsledding adventure into the frozen wilderness.

This beautiful photograph was taken in November by local photographer Lassi Rautaianen. The lights have very much reached Kalevala this season!

This fantastic picture of the Aurora was taken just a few kilometres away from Hotel Kaleva. Usually the Nothern Lights appear as a faint whisp on the horizon. This one really came out in force, lighting up the entire sky with a brilliant display of green....

At last! The Northern Lights have arrived in the Kainuu region and at Hotel Kalevala. They announced themselves with a spectacular display on the horizon. Really looking forward to the next show!......
