05/11/12 - Lobuje to base camp one and Ian's birthday Today is the big one... Visiting base camp. Woken at 5.30 with tea before trekking to Gorak Shep. This would be a normal day's trek in itself but once we got there (after about 4 hrs) we then had a further 5 hour round trip to base camp with the additional complication of having to navigate the Khumba glacier. A hard day indeed but mission accomplished reaching the dizzy heights of 5385m. So knackered it's untrue but capped of by the Sherpa ...

04/11/12 Dingboche to Lobuje Started off a little worried today but all symptoms seem to have disappeared apart from Ian's whirlies. Long slow climb following the path of the glacier run off until we reach the bottom of the Khumba glacier. Short climb brings us to a quite sobering place where monuments have been built to climbers that have perished on Everest and there is a depressingly large number of them !!!!!!! Think I will stick to the lowly heights go base camp one thank you! Having reach...

03/10/12 Dingboche Our wedding anniversary, and spent most of the morning in bed. But don't get the wrong idea, the harsh reality of altitude sickness meant separate single beds and no other activities were possible or credible. Eventually roused ourselves to do our acclimatisation walk... Just a couple of thousand feet but once we got started and the diomox kicked feeling brilliant again. Amazing thing altitude sickness. In about 15 mins you go from feeling on top of the world like feeling yo...

02/10/12 - Thyangboche to Dingboche Woke to views of Everest and had to pinch ourselves to make sure we weren't dreaming. Still wall to wall sunshine and amazingly still boiling hot but once we got out of the tree line it's gets colder. Climbing is steady apart from one short steep climb but still can't stop grinning. Yeti mascot seems to be smiling too. Later .... Both of us showing signs of altitude sickness with Becca suffering the worst. Head guide's remedy of plying her with strong gar...

1/11/12 -Kyanjuma to Thyangboche Today is meant to be an acclimatisation day. By that they mean descend 2000 feet, cross a river by yet another scary bridge and do a 3 hour 2100 feet climb up the other side!!! Not satisfied with that, after arriving in Thyangboche, they suggest we may want to do a 600 ft further acclimatisation climb up to see the Buddhist Stupa. Thyangboche is in a magical location looking out over Everest and its surrounding peaks. Now over 4000m .... Onwards and upwards :-)...
