Well, it is my final night in the Mara. Guests are tucked up with one more game drive. Final dinner was a hoot, some even bought bow ties and the ladies wore long dresses and tiaras - madness, but magnificent madness. The weekly photo competition was outstanding, evey photo entered was good, I wish I had taken most of them, they have all really got into slow shutter speeds on moving animals and some of the results were incredible. The winner was a 17 time visitor to Kicheche and one of Exodus...

Yesterday we went one better as a Masai Mara cheetah has astonishingly raised six cubs to three months. It is unlikely that all will see maturity as it is incredibly hard for these fast but slender predators. However a moment like this is one to cherish and, although one fears for their safety, she is a very good mum.

Sometimes, just sometimes there are wildlife rewards that fly off the scale to stratospheric levels. This is my last safari, the third at Bush Camp, but sadly I will not be back to what I consider home for about eight months. SW19 is not quite the same, barely a day goes by when I am not hankering for the sonorous drone of the herds (which I can hear now at 11 pm), the haunting lament of the fish eagle and the magical light that only the Mara delivers with any regularity.
