Lost Land of the Tiger

I'm lucky enough to have guided many people to see their first Bengal tiger. Tears are frequently and understandably the reaction. Gordon Buchanan's tears on seeing his first high altitude cat were equally understandable last night on the final part of the BBC's Lost Land of the Tiger.

Sticking with tears, I shed a few at 3am this morning as a new Goldstein was admitted to the fold. He already knows more about computers than I do, but that's not saying much.

Remote Country, remote cameras

Here's a thought: the BBC spend millions of license payers money on a documentary about the tigers of Bhutan and the execrable, moronic X-Factor will probably get twice the viewers at least. However does watching it twice double the viewing figures as I cannot remember being so captivated by a documentary, a flawed one but captivating all the same. We wanted a two week holiday somewhere we had not travelled before and we wanted a range of activities that would interest the children and make the adults happy.

FEW The Lycian adventure w...

A picture is worth a thousand words?

The ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius once said “A picture is worth a thousand words.

At least, that’s the common mis-conception, anyway! A recent review of the original Chinese manuscript shows that he (probably) actually said “A picture is worth a thousand pieces of gold”.

It was the American marketing executive Fred R Barnard who in 1921 re-hashed Confucius’ sentiments as “One look is worth a thousand words” when describing the benefits of using a large scale ...
