22km done!

Today was a tough but great day skiing. I went with the group to ski a 22km track from St Vigil to Peradu. As the track had kilometre markers on it I wanted to use the day as a guide for how long the marathon will take me (the answer I discovered is a blooming long time!!). It was an uphill slog for the first half and I don't think I would have made it in the time I did without having Roger and Jim, two experienced xc skiers chasing me all the way up. The descent way slightly more hairy with icy...

Into Kenya

Left Jinja - Uganda and the source of the Nile on 13 January to enter Kenya. Needed to get visa's for crossing, this was built up to be a major problem by the tour guide, but actually it was relatively smooth and reasonably quick. Passing our dollars over with completed forms, photos taken by the custom personel, we were ready to carry on. For the whole group it took about 45mins.

Once into Kenya a long drive lay ahead, few stops (to st...

Downhill all the way...

As part of my training I have joined a 2+ Intermediates cross-country group in Valle Aurina, Italy. Today was our first day out on the snow. To be honest it hasn't filled me with confidence for the marathon and I definitely still have a long way to go with my training. I'm not so su...

Entry to Uganda - 8 January

Going through to Uganda was relatively smooth. Passports checked, visa issued and through, Gosh what a difference in landscape - lots of litter, very dusty and everything covered in orange road dust.

Long trip on truck - eventually reaching Lake Bunyonyi.  Walk in tents, good facilities, beautiful lake views. Groups were swimming in the lake  (supposedly safe) sat at bar looking across lake was quite tranquil.

back now

Back from trip. It had to end, but it was wonderful.

5 Jan.2011 - The Start was a bit of a disaster, arrived at Kigali airport after two flights, met others of group and waited to be collected. We waited for almost three hours, as the tour leader collecting us, believed we were not arriving till much later. No apology - nothing. Finally getting picked up, he apologised for the state of the truck being unclean as he had recently dropped the previous tour off at hotel in Kigali (where i...
