This beautifully composed picture shows a great deal of imagination. Taken close to the Hotel Kalevala, the low setting sun glistens off the crisp snow, throwing out long shadows as it peeks under the lowest branches of the frozen trees that surround the lakeshore. I'm not often a fan of landscape images taken on an angle, but by waiting for the right moment with the sun hovering just above the horizon, and focusing on a point a little in front of the lens, Katherine has ensured that although May marks the sun setting on the 2010 winter activity season, I am already inspired to plan a winter escape in 2011! Congratulations Katherine.
