These are incredibly difficult shots to pull off, yet this has been well conceived and brilliantly executed. It is also a candid representation, someone is clearly recounting a story and all the attention is registered on this individual. The local dress, the dark background and the warmth on the faces all contributes to a image from the reportage school of photography. My favourite ever polar shot is a Frank Hurley image of a cluster of explorers clustered around the blubber oven shrouded in steam and silhouette, Tim's image here reminded me of it. The first job of a photo is to elicit an opinion and to arrest the eye. Mine is still arrested, top job Mr Chance.
