South Georgia Adventure Holidays
Several places have been described as hosting the ultimate wildlife spectacle; if any one place really deserves the title, then South Georgia is a very strong contender. This lonely island is home to hundreds of thousands of King Penguin, as well as several other species of penguin, an estimated 20 million fur seals, elephant seals, albatross and much more. The island even has a human history - home to Norwegian whaling stations, whose rusting remains are found on the north coast, South Georgia was also the destination for Shackleton's epic boat journey from Elephant Island.
South Georgia is a British overseas territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. It is a remote and inhospitable collection of islands, consisting of South Georgia – which measures approximately 106.25 miles (170 km) by 18 miles (29 km) and is by far the largest island in the territory – and a group of smaller islands known as the South Sandwich Islands.
