Honduras activity holidays from the adventure travel experts at Exodus. Honduras is one of the largest of the Central American Republics but also one of the poorest and most sparsely populated. The magnificent Mayan ruins of Copan have 21 intricately carved stelae (columns of stone), on which the passage of time is believed to have been recorded. The Caribbean coast is a mixture of banana-exporting ports, historic towns and diving resorts. Along the coast is a string of interesting islands, largely populated by English speaking Afro-Caribbeans, such as Roatan where warm, clear Caribbean waters allow for excellent snorkeling. The capital, Tegucigalpa, was founded as a mining camp in 1578. It comprises of two towns, Comayaguela and Tegucigalpa, divided by a river and surrounded by peaks, notably El Picacho.
