Italian Alps

The Italian Alps embrace a great swathe of Europe's biggest mountain range, from the highest of all - Mont Blanc - in the west , through such other famous names as Grand Combin, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn along the border with Switzerland, to the jagged peaks of the Dolomites in the east. While the peaks themselves occupy the attention of mountaineers, the valleys to the south are simply stunning, with beautfiul lakes such as Lake Garda and fascinatring towns, many of great historic interest.
