Madagascar Adventure Holidays
Madagascar is a huge and ecologically unique island off the coast of Mozambique in the Indian Ocean. Being on such a fertile trade route, the people (the Malagasy) are a fascinating mix of Bantu, Arab and even Far Eastern origin. But what makes the island so special is the extraordinary flora and fauna - about 80% of it is endemic - a staggering statistic. At the top of the fauna pile are the many and varied species of lemur; these approachable primates are extraordinary in behavioural habits and extremely photogenic. To walk in the forests of Perinet and Berenty searching for the howling Indri or the endearing ring-tailed lemur is hugely rewarding. Along the way the smaller creatures are equally fascinating; the colourful chameleons and frogs, beautiful orchids and butterflies plus all manner of weird and wonderful insects from praying mantis to stick insects. Madagascar is about more than just animals; it is the beautiful coastline, the French-style Creole cuisine, the dramatic and rocky national park of Isalo and the lush interior of Ranomafana. Any fan of wildlife and true wilderness, and ones who do not like their travel too cut and dried will adore this amazing island.
