Dogon Village Adventure Holidays

The Dogon people fled to the Bandiagara Escarpment over six hundred years ago to seek refuge from Islamic persecutors. They did not resume contact with the outside world until the 1930s. They are known for their masked dances; dancers wear painted wooden masks adorned with colourful tassles. The dances have religioius significance and create a bridge between the physical and supernatural worlds allowing the dead to pass over into peace.
