Holidays to Nepal

Nepal adventure holidays from the experts at Exodus

One word says it all when it comes to Nepal: Himalaya. This magical mountainous kingdom sits high on the spine of the World’s most famous mountain range. Nerve tingling scenery, a complex culture and some of the best walking trails in the world all contrive to make Nepal a real Shangri-La for the intrepid adventure traveller. Nepal is the adventure travel centre of Southern Asia. Trek to the top of the world, raft down raging rapids, bathe with elephants or just contemplate the meaning of life, the universe and everything in this most spiritual of nations.

Nepalese Culture
For the majority of the locals, life in Nepal adds new meaning to living on the edge. Life is a delicate balance of high altitude, hard work and social festivities, all steeped heavily in ancient tradition. Although a poor country, Nepal is culturally very rich. The intermingling of traditions and faiths has created an intricate tapestry where religious tolerance and harmony are the norm. Many different ethnic groups co-exist here, all with their own distinct social identities and cultural patterns. Extend your warmth and respect and in return you will receive a genuine insight into this fascinating world.

Activity Holiday Essentials: Nepal
1. Trek the Everest trails
Most activities here revolve around the mountains, with Mount Everest taking the spotlight. The Everest trail takes you through the Sherpa heartland with awe-inspiring views. Thyangboche monastery offers one of the finest mountain viewpoints in the world. Trekkers up for the ultimate challenge aim for Everest Base Camp located on the rugged Kumbhu Glacier, and at the foot of the world’s tallest peak.

2. Cycle from Lhasa to Kathmandu
Cycling from Lhasa, in Tibet, to the Nepalese capital is an epic journey that takes adventure cycling to new levels. This overland route takes in high altitude desert, awesome mountain passes and the north face of Everest before an incredible 40km descent into Nepal.

3. The Annapurna Circuit
What Everest has in size, the Annapurna range more than makes up in sheer diversity. It takes in virtually every range of scenery Nepal has to offer, ranging from the sub-tropical to alpine forests, from semi-desert to mountain passes. It is also home to many tribal villages, both Buddhist and Hindu. On a walking holiday you’ll get to meet the hospitable people of these remote villages.

4. The best of the rest…
Nepal isn’t just about mountaineering. Lush valleys give way to incredible gorges and rivers, a stunning backdrop to its amazing flora and fauna. Wildlife holidays don’t come much better; elusive snow leopards inhabit the mountains and Chitwan National Park is home to elephants and rhino. Walking, cycling, river rafting and elephant bath time are perfect activities for an unforgettable adventure holiday.

    Cheers, from the rooftops.
The ultimate experience of a lifetime. To share this with likeminded folk, we were all there with our own reasons. It was a time for reflection but also a time to look forward to the future. What an accomplishment and such awe inspiring views from whatever way you chose to see them from. Colourful, beautiful people living ontop of the world, we could learn a few things from them. Positively humbling. It was an honour and a privilage to live and walk with these remarkable people. Would I like to do it again ? Why, YES of course I would.

  • Bliss in another world
    Bliss in another world
One of the moments of most complete bliss I've ever felt. Trekking in the Himalayas, surrounded by wide mountains, open sky with the sun shining. I remember thinking that THIS was the real world, not the cities, offices and desks. The earth, mountains, and rivers, these reflect the natural processes that made us and these are the forces that continue long after we are gone. This is what our planet actually looks like, but we are too busy to look at it. Just recalling that particular moment is a little oasis in my everyday life.

    The Beauty of Everest
In 2011 I made my first attempt on Everest. While it was extremely hard work the beauty of the region and the mountain itself were absolutely stunning. Standing in the Western Cym by myself it was as if I was the only person in the world....

Being privalaged to trekk in the Everest National Park was the highlight of my lifes experiences. At that altitude the amount of air that you can breath in may be reduced but fantastic quality, it was like breathing 100% Oxygen. All the wories of the world are put to the back of you mind and you were left just to enjoy the experience and what an experiance it was.

    Annapurna Dawn
We were on a trekking holiday in the foothills of the Annapurnas in Nepal. I had been told about a viewpoint not far from our campsite which afforded magnificent views of the Annapurna range. I got out of bed early and walked to the viewpoint, arriving just after dawn to be met with this beautiful scene just as the sun rose, illuminating the Annapurna range in all it's glory. I felt happy to be alive!

The Project Day, Kathmandu Children’s Cancer. Handy out Teddies to the children, their faces is something I will never forget. Amazing, simply gift gave much happiness. I never felt more alive and lucky as I did that day. Trekking Pooh Hill, I kept thinking of those children in Kathmandu or any child who may never get the chance to grow up and live their dreams. I did this adventure in 2011; my mind is still goes back to that adventure. Wonderful experience, will stay with me all my life. My eyes were opened to the beauty, culture traditions of Nepalese.

    And my next Challenge is...
Sitting at Tengboche and enjoying uninterupted views of Everest waiting for my party to return from Base Camp, a helicopter lands and is cause for great excitement for the Tibetan Monks at the Monastary. This guy, Victorio Brumonti, in the video is extreme in his challenges! The young monks had a great time riding his bike and I love the American at the end saying "you could die!"

    Top of the World
An extraordinary adventure from start to finish. The roller-coaster landing and take off from Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, the incredibly strong, humble, and gracious Nepalese people, the mani walls and mani rocks at every turn of the trail, the beautiful and friendly children of the Khumbu region, the fantastic metal suspension bridges, the colorful prayer flags blowing in the wind, the exhilaration of reaching 17,126 feet of thin air, the awe inspiring first glimpse of the majestic Mount Everest. An incredible once in a lifetime, trekking experience.

    Dreaming of Everest
Trekking to Everest Base Camp has been the greatest experience of my life. The trek takes you through all sorts of beautiful terrain. There are incredible mountains all around you but nothing beats the moment when you first set eyes on Everest herself. She certainly lives up to her name of 'Goddess Mother of the Earth'. This picture was taken next to the memorials of all the climbers that have lost their lives on Everest. It was a sombre but beautiful place, which reminded you of the power that nature holds.
