Slovakia, the eastern half of former Czechoslovakia, and only established as a country just over 10 years ago, Slovakia is one of eastern Europe's more interesting countries. The capaital Bratislava retains much of its historical charm along with smaller towns such as Levoca and Kezmarok. From the High Tatra Mountains, flanking the Polish border, to the lower but equally dramatic massifs of the Mala Fatra and the Low Tatras, Slovakia arguably has central Europe's most spectacular mountain scenery.
