Damascus Cultural Holidays

Modern Damascus is quite a sophisticated city with fine shops and restaurants. In the centre of the city is old Damascus, a maze of narrow streets around the famous Grand Bazaar and the Omayyad Mosque, a masterpiece of early Islamic architecture. Also here is the street called ‘Straight’, in the same place as in the time of St Paul, as well as the tomb of Saladin, the Kurdish Moslem general who was the scourge of the Crusaders.
