Basecamp, an eco friendly luxury tented camp in the Masai Mara
On our Classic Kenya Safari (Trip Code: AYM) and Classic Kenya Safari & Zanzibar (Trip Code: AYZ) departures in 2011 we use Basecamp, an eco friendly luxury tented camp beautifully located in an oxbow of the Talek river. Each spacious tent overlooks the Masai Mara game reserve and is situated on a platform of plantation grown cypress, with every deck facing the river and having a unique view. Intimacy is provided by the natural surrouding flora and by the small dimensions of the camp, which only has 12 en-suite tents.
Basecamp is the only camp which has been rated Gold by the Eco Tourism society of Kenya in the Masai Mara and here the now President of the US Barrack Obama chose to stay at when he visited the Masai Mara in 2006.
The approach to responsible and sustainable tourism is combined with faultless service and extreme comfort. The waste water from showers and sinks is recycled to nurture the beautiful vegetation that surrounds the area and all lighting and water heating within the camp utilises solar technology.
The camp promotes various projects to support the local communities and the nature conservation, giving the visitors the possibility to adopt a cheetah, plant new trees or support a fair trade handcraft centre where more than 100 Masai women produce traditional beads and leather works.
By staying at Basecamp you can support nature conservation, community development and the Maasai culture whilst having an unforgettable wildlife experience in one of the most incredible safari destinations in the world.
