Food & Drink of the Dolomites

Dishes of the region have been passed down from generation to generation and have a strong Austrian influence thanks to the culture of the area. Classics include the Spatzle (green gnocchi type pasta), Specknodel (bread dumplings with speck) and of course Kaiserschmarren, (pancake strips with raisins), which is an amazing (but filling) end to a lunch in a mountain refuge.

To get the most out of a walking holiday, we all need good food to keep our energy levels up for the exertions of the week. For this reason, we have chosen some excellent hotels in the Dolomites with Michelin recommended chefs. Helene Markart is the head chef at Hotel Adler, used on our Classic Dolomites tour, who appears in the Michelin guide among others thanks to her incredible local and international cuisine. Alternatively, try our hotel on Walking in the Western Dolomites who was recognised as an excellent chef on an Italian television cooking programme.
