My favourite walk

The Simien Mountains by Exodus’ Sue Kannenberg.

The first couple of days on the trek, my lungs had to get used to the thin cold air but the sheer beauty and grandeur of the mountains filled me with energy and life. The loud bark of the Gelada baboons broke the morning silence, I stirred in my warm sleeping bag, eager to get out and see these magnificent creatures. The crisp mountain air tickled my nostrils as I struggled to make out the dark figures in the thin morning mist, at first one and then three and then ten.  Slowly the entire troop came into the suns first rays, foraging, fighting and screaming they entertained us, these guardians of the mountains are truly a sight to behold.

The Simiens were simply breathtaking, it’s a place that will steal your heart and leave you begging for more, I know I certainly left a part of my heart high amongst the ancient rock and cloud.
