If you are, then please decide early to avoid disappointment due to a lack of permits! Two years ago, peak season permits were selling out three months before the trek was due to start. For 2007, they were gone by 4 or 5 months before departure. I think the popularity of the trek will only lead to the need to buy ealier in the future, so if you are considering the Inca Trail, please don't postpone your decision too long. Peak season on the trail is considered early June to the end of September to coincide with the dry season.
If Peru is your focus and not this particular trail, why not consider our new route which can be done instead of the Inca Trail. It's a little tougher, but much quieter and with better mountain views and barely explored ruins. Please look out for the upcoming Extracts article on this trek and photos here (http://www.exodus.co.uk/photos/album/79)!
