Kilimanjaro -

Hi Andy

Nice to to make contact with someone. Training - I've been going to the gym regularly and have done some walking but there are no hills in my area which isn't ideal! How about you? I've done a few treks before but nothing at altitude which is the bit that concerns me.

The trip suddenly feels very real!

Michelle

Michelle Training has been -
Michelle Training has been a bit slow, just trying to go for a run most nights. I did everest base camp a few years ago, the altitude caused me quite a few problems but its so unpredictable. Some people were absolutly fine, others had constant headaches and sickness. You may want to look into taking diamox, can be very effective in lowering altitude sickness.  Are you booked onto the group flight fro heathrow? andy

AndyInteresting to hear you -

Andy

Interesting to hear you have done Base Camp, I'm considering that in 2010 if the altitude doesn't kill me this time! I'm going to get some Diamox, have heard conflicting reports about it but figure it's handy to have in the pocket. Have also heard how reaction to altitude can differ from trip to trip so hopefully you will fair better this time although at least you know what to expect. I'll do some 'training' by having a few hangovers over the festive period to get used to the tired, headachey feeling!

Yes I'm on the group flight from Heathrow...we can play the 'spot the Exodus kit bag' game.  Michelle

Hello Guys, not on your trip -
Hello Guys, not on your trip but getting ready for the Annapurna Circuit in March. You may wish to look at the Destinations-Asia-Altitude Sickness comments in Compass Cafe. We did the Kili/Safari trip in 2005-you are in for a treat!

Michelle, uve sold me, im -

Michelle, uve sold me, im going to get down the pub straight away and begin my training.  The thought of going for a run 2nite seems a little to much like hard work lol.

As for the Diamox, im going to take them again but i really dont know whats its like without them. Its the malaria tablets that are worrying me, had a friend come back from kenya, said she was really ill for the tablets.

If u fancy a chat before the trip email me and i will send you my number- andrew@greenperfection.co.uk

Its getting close -

Hi Guys,

We are joining the party on the 11th and feeling a tad apprehensive about altitude and the joy of summit day ! Training wise my brother and I did the Kerry Way and the Reeks in September and have clambered up the odd Munro since, but we need to overcome the excesses of the Festive season pdq. Looking forward to teh challenge and meeting everyone.

Cheers

Neil

Kilimanjaro -

Hi Neil

Nice to see you on the forum. I can't believe we leave in 4 days! Know what you mean about getting over the Christmas excesses. I braved the cold (figured I need to get used to it!) and went for a 3 hour walk this afternoon to stretch the legs.

Look forward to meeting you.

 Michelle

One more day .... -

Hi Michelle,

Can't beleive that we are just about there.  Like you I had a 3 hour stretch on the forest trails today to give the legs a warm up. It is however absolutely sheeting horizontal rain up here on the West of Scotland so got a good soak and now off to start me packing.

 See you all soon.

Regards

Neil
