Kilimanjaro fellow travellers
Hi Aby and Mike,
I'm Tom (aged 27 living in London) and am coming on the Kilimanjaro trip too. Can't believe it's only four weeks away now! You're definitely right that this trip sounds like a massive challenge..... But I'm looking forward to it.
Tom
Hi Tom nice to hear from another traveller - maybe everyone else is too busy training
To you and anyone else who logs in -
Only 23 days to go and trying to increase our training but not easy after Christams.
Laid out all the gear just to make sure we have everything
Still got a bit of a shopping list and will need to remember to have plenty memory sticks especially for the safari.
You will find oiut very soon that we have a 'thing' about photographs at every oppertunity
We are from north of Manchester so are driving down as Mike does not trust Heathrow to hand our luggage!!!
Aby on behalf of both of us
Aby and Mike,
Glad to hear that you've got your gear sorted and are planning to take lots of pics. I know exactly what you mean about training being tricky after Christmas! In my case, it's not helped by the fact that I strained my ankle on a training walk in the Brecon Beacons a couple of weekends ago... Still, it's on the mend now so fingers crossed that it'll be ok by the time we hit the slopes of Kili!
Is anyone planning to take Diamox for altitude sickness? I've heard/read different things about it... Some of the guidebooks say it's not a good idea, but it seems like quite a few people do take it on the mountain, or at least bring it with them and start to take it if they have problems.
Tom
Hi again
We are taking Diamox with us but not sure if we will take it as some books say it hides the effects of altitiude sickness. Last trip we were on they gave us snacks which included energy sachets to dissolve which helps with fluid intake as tates better and gives more energy so I have bought some of those just in case they don't provide
Not been walking recently in case have fall on icy conditions so being training with step ups and back pack in the gym
We have not got our tickets yet - has anyone else??
Also last trip they provided Exodus bags for the trek and not got those either yet
Only 16 days to fly off!!!
I spoke to someone in the Exodus office yeserday about tickets. He said that they should be emailed out in the next few days (i.e. they probably won't be paper tickets). My Exodus kit bag has already arrived, so I guess you should receive yours soon.
I've bitten the bullet and decided to take Diamox too, if only for peace of mind. Will probably start taking them at the start of the trek.
Not long to go now! Wonder whether anyone else will log on to have a chat before we go. I guess we may spot each other at Heathrow (look out for the kit bags!)?
Tom
Hi fellow travellers,
Can't wait to meet you all next week. I think I'm going to take Diamox. I haven't taken it before and am going to take it tomorrow to see how i feel. Do you know if we have to meet at the hotel at a certain time on Sunday? I saw 1pm, but might be a bit late. Also, what is a kitbag? Is it just like a duffel?
Looking forward to meeting you all!!

Hi All!
I think I may have been posting in the wrong thread! Is everyone leaving Heathrow on the 30th, flight departing at 19:00 (KQ101)?
If so I'll be joining you and probably be the youngest on the trip at 18. I'm a web programmer based in Leicestershire and this trip has been a dream of mine for a while now.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the 30th, we should all be pretty easy to spot at the airport I'd have thought!
Ash
