Trip - APG - HIGHLIGHTS OF PERU & GALAPAGOS, Departure Date - Thursday 16th April 2009

I will be in The Galapagos for the first week of May, and  I've heard conflicting reports re the need of a wetsuit for snorkelling.  Can anyone confirm whether its necesarry to take one, or whether they're available locally as I want to keep my luggage to a minimum but also want to make sure I can maximise my time in the water?  Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Linda

Hi Linda,

I've just returned from the Galapagos so can definitely help you! If you need a wetsuit or not really depends on how warm and sunny it is when you're there, and also how susceptible you are to the cold. Most people in my group were fine without wetsuits, and our trip was hot and sunny. However, if you do decide you need one, don't worry, they're available for rent on the Cachalote along with snorkel, mask and fins. I think it was about $20 for the week for the wetsuit.

Thanks Dan, I really -

Thanks Dan, I really appreciate the advice - great to know I can just get one locally if needed.  Getting really excited now....

Cheers,
