Ladakh - trip AIF
Our Nepal Base Manager Valerie Parkinson led this trip last summer and this is what she has to add.
"It is a great little trip which visits lots of unusual places in North India as well as Ladakh. Ladakh is an amazing place - like a smaller version of Tibet. Lots of monasteries to see and amazing mountain scenery. The flight to Leh is great if clear as you fly over the Himalaya. Nice hotel in Leh - Leh is a great little town. The road journey from Leh to Manali is one of the classic road journeys of the world - long days and quite hard driving especially at altitude but incredible scenery - high mountain passes and amazing rock formations. The camp at Tsokar is quite basic. Keylong you do not see much of as the drives are quite long. Manali is a bit Swiss like with fir and pine forests. Then you drive south with beautiful scenery. Dharamsala is Little Tibet and a busy bustling town - lots of gompas and shops and Tibetan people - you get free day to wander here. Then on to Amritsar and the Sikh Golden Temple - an amazing place - very calm despite the hundreds of pilgrims. A great trip packing in so much in the time. Some driving days are long , but you get photo stops and lunch stops. Great food too - there is time to sample a huge variety of cuisines."
