Annapurna Sancturary 26 March
Hi Kay - my name is David and I am travelling with my friend Dave on this trip. We are both really looking forward to it as neither of us have been to the Himalayas either, and it looks fantastic. We've been out for a few practice walks looking for hills, and whilst obviously they are no substitute for the real thing, it has at least given us a chance to try different combinations of gear to see what works best.
I've also just received my kit bag and am wondering how everything on my current kit list is going to fit in!
Look forward to meeting you soon.
David
Hi, David...and your friend Dave. Good to hear from you. I tried kit bag this weekend and it seems to just take everything to keep me warm in the lodge just under the lmt of 12Kg. I'm more worried about being cold than my fitness! I walk almost every weekend, but live in one of the flattest place on earth, near the lowest place in UK, which doesn't help! itching to see mountains.
I have been reading lots of books on Himalayas. Today, I received another book from Amazon. I have been hooked by those dramas of climbing.
Kay
Hi Kay - I am planning to have a practice pack with my bag & gear later this week. It will be interesting to see how near I get to 12kg, and what I have to leave out!
We had a couple of days in the Cotswolds last week walking up all of the steep hills we could find, which was especially good for the stamina with all the mud that we kept having to plough through as well!
I've also been reading some of the Himalaya books, the last one being the Ascent of Rum Doodle which I enjoyed.
David
Hi, I am not on your trip. I just got back from 25th Feb departure. You lucky so, & so`s should see the rhododendron forests in full bloom. We could not stop the night at ABC because of too much snow, but we still went there for lunch. We stopped an extra night at MBC instead. going to ABC is the highlight of your trip. Food was divine for such a remote area, same menu where ever you went. Make sure you have 'dal bhat', and hot lemon.
The Ascent of Rum Doodle is so funny. You`ll be able to go to the Rum Doodle restaurant in Kathmandu, which was a hit with the group I was in.
Jason
Hi Jason - many thanks for the update above. Sounds like you had a great trip, and nice to know that the food was good on the trek. All the snow at ABC sounds interesting to say the least!
Just over a week to go now until we depart, so definitely getting excited.
All the best.
David
I have picked the date of the trip for the rhododendron. Hope we see a lot of them. I wasn't expecting too much about the food, will make sure to get dal bhat...if I can remermber the name. Hope the snow goes a bit from ABC in a couple of weeks.
My practice for walking....went to 'Hills and Hole' last week, a local nature reserve which was a former quarry, got to imagine they are more than 1000 times high!
Hi I'm heading out a day early on the 24th and meeting up with a friend of mine called Gwenno who is already in Nepal. We are both doing this trip.
Looking forward to this and packing early for a change
See you all next week
John
