Any body going to Cuba on August 21st. Be good to chat.
My boyfriend and I have booked the trip too. We're really excited - this is a long wanted travel. I can't wait an evening in Havana. Have you been to Cuba before?
Great that you are both coming, at least I know other people are going!, no I have never been to Cuba, but I know people that have been and they assure me it is good.., I am slightly concerned that you have to take cash! as ATMs are rare.
Sounds a good trip, I hope it is as good as it says in the literature... and not toooooooooo rainy
Hi Im Robin, and Im also on the Cuba trip 21/08.
I did the same trip 5 years ago and had such a fantastic time decided to sign up again.
Dont recall access to ATM's being such a problem last time I was there, but as for the rain, rest assured you will get drenched daily. You could set your watch by the thunderstorms every afternoon at 3pm !
All adds to the atmosphere though when your glugging your mojitos with the lightning flashing.
Look forward to meeting you all in 5 weeks time ....
I will be joining you guys and its my 1st bike trip. I am very excited.
I am used to rd bikes and useing clets. would people recommend normal trainers or bike shoes for this trip.
If any one is around london and fancies spinning out on the bikes and grabbing coffee let me know.
Thanks for the information, I will remember to pack something waterproof, however when drinking I expect one hardly remembers or even feels the rain!!!
I am very excited, it is a place I have always wanted to visit, however Jess I dont think I have signed up for the Bike ride!
Have I got this wrong?, but I am going on the taste of Cuba tour..
Be good to meet everyone
hey no its me that got it wrong i was Cuba and the dates and asumed it was mine .
I am off to find so fellow bikers have a top holiday
Easy mistake, have a great holiday!
just wondering - is it just four of us going?
Robin from your past ecxperience any advise on how to take money with us. YOu've mentioed ATMs - are there any other options? - perhaps you know...
It's just two weeks from now...really excited!
When I booked, I think I got the last place, and was told there would be 18 of us on the trip ..... but Im a bit surprised at the lack of activity on here .......
I remember seeing the odd ATM in Havana, but nowhere else.
Last time I went I was advised to change a good slug of cash on arrival at the airport, which i will do again, but Im sure there were opportunities to change cash during the week as well.
I think cash is advised rather than travellers cheques, and cash should be in GBP ££ or Euros, but deff not USD.
Hope that helps !
See you in 2 weeks .....Robin :-)
Yes I am surprised at the lack of activity on this site.., but maybe it is not peoples thing...maybe
Good advise on the money, I assume they will have money exchange places in Havanna as well as the airport?
Anyway getting very excited.. not long!
See you all soon
Robin, thanks for advise.
I've been searching the web to get some idea about prices in Cuba but with no luck - we have no clue how much cash we should take. We only have breakfast provided so I thought it would be good to have some feel of how much an average meal may cost.
I have also contacted exodus to find out about the cost of additional excursions. Will let you know guys when I get a reply.
In the meantime I would be greatful for some first/second hand info.
See you soon.
Im no expert, and its 5 years since I went, so Im not sure whats changed since last time I went, but.............
Generally speaking, the prices werent as cheap as I expected and were generally comparable to UK prices.
Some of the trips were quite pricey .... but generally worth the money. I recall the trip to the Tropicana club which I think is on the itinerary again was the equivalent of about £50 ....but it included meal and drinks.
There is a dual currency system in operation .... as tourists we use the convertible CUC$, whereas the locals use Cuban pesos ...... the tour guide sometimes organised lunches using local pesos .... Pizza then cost about 12p rather than the £4 equivalent in CUC$ !
Not sure if that helps .... im struggling a bit myself to work out how much to take this time.
Thanks for the advise.., very helpful, spoke to friends/family who have been to Cuba(about 2 years ago) and said that prices are similar to the UK, but one said Havanna was their most favourite city in the world! Also said there are some ATMs but would only take credit not debit cards. I am going to take pounds rather than Euros because I think the rate is better.
Although I booked a while ago I have only got round to getting in touch with others now. Maybe because i am also suddenly thinking about what money, clothes and mossie stuff to take. However good to read the other comments because everyone else is not quite sure about this stuff either! No doubt for 9 days I can cope. I spoke to Exodus the other day and they said the trip was full at 16.
Looking forward to Cuba and meeting people at Gatwick.
Havana, sun, drink what else could we want!
Hi this really helps, can do some working out now!... not long now be good to get away to sunshine and peace!....I hope
