Anyone going to Sri Lanka?

Yes I've booked to go in July, I have been on Solo holidays before & they are good fun.

Sri Lanka looks amazing, July can't come quick enough :)

I'm also going on this holiday and am very much looking forward to it! It's my first solo trip but I'm now glad to know that I'm not the only solo person going on it : )

Fantastic to see at least two other are joining me on this trip! I was really nervous as it's my first solo trip but now I'm just excited :) Where are you travelling from Aisling? At least we can be new to solo trips together :)

I'm really excited about it too! It will also be my first trip outside of Europe which will be great! I'm flying from London, you? I'm so glad I won't be the only single too : )

First trip outside of Europe? :) I'm sure it will be a fantastic first trip! I've been to America and Canada but nowhere eastern really so I'm doubly excited. I'm flying out of London too, it's nice to know someone else will be on the flight :)!

Hey guys! Not long to go now! I was just thinking how I'm going to recognise any of you at the airport as I know my suitcase is just regular and black, so I thought we could exchange numbers or designate an area to meet up once arrived!

 I've also just spoken to exodus to sort out a few questions I had and they confirmed that seat allocation is done when you check in online, which for Qatar Airways is 36 hours before departure. This means that we won't be sitting together which I would quite like to have done. If anyone else thinks sitting together would be nice we can always arrange to check in online at the same time and co-ordinate our seat numbers! (Please only agree to this if you are thin as I need the extra room for my big behind! ;)!!)

As I said it's 36 hours prior to check in so I will give you a call on the friday and we can have a look at the available seats etc! I don't think I could handle that long a flight without some company!

It crossed my mind for the actual day it'd be great to meet up before boarding etc but I have no idea what you look like!( I'll be with a bright blue backpack and i'm sure we'll be able to call if we can't find each other!!) 

Also maybe a place to meet? That could make it easier than phone calls and describing wherever we are at the time! I've just looked at the departure lounge for terminal 3 at heathrow and there is an American Express bureau de change smack dab in the centre of the departure lounge once you get through the open shop area and it's located right next to seating so this seems like a perfect option as I know I will be getting there with plenty of time to spare :)!!

Mum and I were figuring on 12 aswell as it's a long haul flight and I hate to rush! So hopefully neither of us will have too long to wait for company! :)

Clothes? I'm planning on taking three long trousers two linen, one regular. Three knee length to 3/4 shorts and a bunch of tops, not sure how many but mainly light tshirts, baggy and breathable as I'm not a small person. I'm also taking a little cardigan thing for places like the temples and worlds end! I think all in all I will look like a very un-stylish toursit! But at least I should be comfy, fingers crossed.

What are you doing about money? I tried yesterday to get Sri Lankan rupee's so I would have some ready but either places don't actually sell them and suggest I buy them out there or they only come in 2000 denomination notes which is far too big. But I don't want to be the only one buying them out there and holding everybody up!

I really hope this trip is as good as I think it's going to be, counting down the days now! :)!

I hate rushing too, I'd rather be there & get rid of my case, lunch & chill.

I've been told to buy the currency when I get to Sri Lanka, so I'll change my money then at the airport.

I do think we'll all be doing the same, at least we can all wait in the queue together.

I'm no good with dresses, I stick out in all the wrong places! :)

 I'll change my money at the airport then so at least I know I can get the smaller denominations! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone else and I'm so glad I now have someone I can meet before I go and hopefully sit with! :)

Hey Aisling,

I've had Hepatitis A and Typhoid for this trip just incase though i'm not sure if it's too late for you to have them now. I suggest you call your GP and see, as for the adapter you need a south african one it's got two circular pins at the top and one larger circular pin at the bottom!

I'm sure you've seen the above posts, do you want to check in online at the same time also and see if we can get seats together etc?

I haven't had any vaccinations, but I do think it's too late now.

They only advise as a precaution, so I think we should be OK.

Hi guys :) week to go so excited! Barbara we spoke a little while ago about money exchange and we said we'd get it once out there, are you going to take out the cash in pounds before you go and then exchange it or do we do that there aswell do you think, i'm unsure how to go about it :S!!!!

I am going to take out sterling here & exchange it at the airport once I get there. Still not sure how much to take, but we can withdraw cash in the bigger towns in Sri Lanks quite easily I'm told.

Ahhh! end of this week and we're off!

 I think that is going to be the best way to do it, I looked at a mapof colombo airport and you cant miss the exchange desks so all should be fine and yes they said any major town especially kandy for withdrawing!

I'll give you a call on friday to sort out checking in and seat booking, any particular time I should call? and yes! i'll see you at the airport on saturday outside the bureau de change!
