Anyone going on this trip?

Hi, Beverly. I'm travelling on this trip with my daughter - it's her 21st birthday present from last year! So, when we're travelling she'll be 22. You say you're travelling with 6 - how come? Tim
julie
hi beverly, fancy meeting you here and hello tim. its good to hear from somebody else who will be on the trip.
Tim,
If your daughter is 22 it sounds like you may be in the older age group like us! You may have guessed that Julie is part of my group. We are a group of friends and partners/husbands travelling to 'celebrate' my 50th birthday last October. Are you a seasoned trekker ?
Looking forward to meeting you
Beverly
Beverley
Happy Birthday for last October. Yes, you're correct I am of the older age group. Am I an experienced trekker ? Yes, I've done a bit. Likewise, looking forward to meeting you and your group.
Tim
Hi All
My wife Jacqui and I will be joining you on this trek.
We did the Inca Trail with Exodus last summer and are certainly bitten by the bug.
Duncan
Duncan,
It probably is the same trip - we leave Heathrow on the 30th but the trip starts in Kathmandu on the 31st. Looking forward to meeting you and Jacqui if we are in the same group,
Beverly
Hi All,
I'm one of Beverly's group. Good to meet others who are on the trip. There are 7 of us; ages ranging from 50ish to 60. We are all fairly active, walking, running, cycling etc so hope we will be able to cope with the trekking. Really looking forward to it though a bit nervous.
Anybody who's done this sort of thing before got any advise about what's essential to take and what you can leave behind? Do we need sleeping mats?
Kath
I'm slightly confused by some of the posts re: departure date. All my documentation gives departure London 31st March 2012, Qatar Airways QR002.
Is that the trip you're on Beverley (and friends) and Duncan?
Cheers Tim
Tim,
I'm confused as well now, maybe there are 2 trips. My documents say 30th March on Jet Airways,
Beverly
Tim/Duncan,
I have checked with exodus and our flight does go on the 30th but people who booked land only and organised their own flights have been given 31st as the starting date of the holiday as it's a night flight. Hope that makes sense to you!
Beverly
Hi Beverly
Thanks for your last post. Interesting; I've booked everything with Exodus (about 2-3 months before Christmas) and the itinerary talks about a 31/3 departure from LHR flying on Qatar via Doha. If you are going with Jet are you flying via Delhi? And when do you arrive in Khatmandu?
Different subject; are you all sorted on your kit yet?
Tim
PS Doesn't really matter either way - I'm just interested - and we'll meet in Royal Singhi sometime!
Tim,
That is strange, maybe our flight was full. We booked 18 months ago and yes flying via Delhi. We arrive in Kathmandu at 14:45, when does your flight arrive?
We are probably sorted out with kit now although nervously awaiting the arrival of the kitbags to see how much of what we have we can actually take with us, how about you?
Beverly
Hi everyone,
we are coming along to this trip. Partly to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We are flying via Doha. We didn't book that long ago, so probably on a different flight to many of you. Looking forward to meeting you all.
A bit bemused by all the diarrhoea medication and water cleaning options!
Estelle & Alan
PS asked the question about camping mats and was told they would not be needed. Still wondering whether ankle gaiters would be a good idea for possible snow higher up?
Hi, Estelle and Alan,
Glad to hear from you, I was wondering who the other people on the trip are. We are taking gaiters as they will be another layer in the cold even if there isn't any snow. I'm not sure about water purification it sounds like most of the time we will be OK with boiled water but I will buy something in Boots probably. I have been told by someone who has done a simiar trip that we can buy good diarrhoea medication in Kathmandu as well as multi purpose antibiotics to carry just in case.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Beverly
Hi Beverly
Thanks for clarifying your dates. Look forward to meeting you all.
We're likely to pop to London to sort out Nepal visas this week, are you planning to arrange yours in advance?
Duncan
Duncan,
No, we will be getting our's at the airport we haven't been organised enough to do it in advance,
Beverly
hi yvette
hi yvette
welcome on board. we will happily leave the details at reception as requested. i am looking forward to meeing everybody next week. off to look through my pile yet again to see what not to take!
see you all soon julie
Hi Julie. If you are with Beverley's grouo departing on the 30th then we are on different treks - I am on the trek departing the following day, the 31st, which is a different group. I confimed this with Exodus. Y
oh well, i hope you have a lovely time. best wishes julie
Yvette,
Well that's strange because Exodus told me we were the same trip just on different flights!
Beverly
You are definitely on a seperate trek - your group of 6 is part of a wider group of 16 people leaving on the 30th and will be 1 day ahead of our group of 7 (departing 31st) throughout the trip, though perhaps we'll cross over at the hotel before and after and if so would be great to meet up. Sure we'll all have a great time regardless of which trek we're on. Good luck with the packing - if I were you I'd make a big pile of what you think you need, then get rid of half of it! Though I'd personally keep hold of the down jacket, thermal sleepers and the extra large pack of baby wipes!
hello again yvette, thanks for that advice, you sound as though you have plenty of previous experience. i have a large packet of baby wipes that will definitely be coming with me!
Yvette, thanks for that information you seem to have been able to find out far more than I have about our group. We will look out for you and your group at the hotel and maybe see you at the rest day tea house if we are still there when you arrive,
Beverly
Hi Yvette,
I'm on the 31st trip, although I'm arriving a day early. I will leave a message with the hotel reception if I meet up and go out with the group.
I'm struggling with the 12kg limit for the internal flight to Lukla. Do you know if this includes the weight of your day pack?
Simon
Thanks Yvette, that really helps.
