We are starting to get really excited for the summer now - booking jabs and reading books about the places we're visiting. Anyone else on this trip?
Charlotte and Sam
Hi Charlotte and Sam
We're also booked on this trip. As we live in Newcastle we've booked our own flights (via Amsterdam) to Bangkok but should be arriving in Thailand at around the same time as the people booked on the group flight.
Fortunately, we'll need no jabs as we travel a lot. GPs are often pretty clueless when it comes to travel advice and the best websites for health information are www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk and the official American site www.cdc.gov Don't forget it is a lot cheaper to buy antimalarials online rather than from you local pharmacist (e.g. Boots charge over £3.00 per malarone tablet instore but only £2.29 each online).
We have visited Bangkok before (9 years ago on our honeymoon) and, like you, are looking forward to exploring Laos and Cambodia.

Thanks very much for the malarone advice. I haven't 'travelled' in this sense of the word for five years, Bolivia was my last jaunt and my husband spent lots to time travelling in the States - jabs and pills all need to be bought and updated! We were debating the pros and cons of Japanese Encephalitis... In for a penny and all that, might as well have the lot I guess.
This is kind of our honeymoon too, a year and some after the wedding. Sam is all about the ice and snow so this should be an interesting adventure in the muggy heat. Have you travelled with Exodus before?
We have both travelled with Exodus several times before and have enjoyed the trips with them. We also tend to organise a lot of our own trips - most recently to Kerala in India over Easter. We won the flights courtesy of the Guardian/Observer travel awards and arranged our own car/driver and hotels.
The Foreign Office have just advised of 'all but essential travel' to Bangkok due to the unrest there. The situation may calm down before we travel; if not Exodus will probably reroute the trip to avoid the city which would be a pity if you have not been there before as the Royal Palace is spectacular. We spent out honeymoon staying at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok (9 years ago) and had a fabulous time there. The main reasons for going on this trip are, of course, to visit Laos and Cambodia.

Hi Huw and Leigh
We've been watching the unrest via the news. I hope it calms before we go, we were looking forward to a little snippet of Bangkok. We haven't had any communication from Exodus at all since we made the inital booking on this trip. They didn't let us know via the 'automatic email' when the trip became 'guaranteed' and now it's become 'unavailable' I hope this simply means it's all booked up and nothing else! In some places on the site, the departure date is listed as the 30th July and some on the 29th. Details, details... Maybe we're missing of some group email list.
Anyhow, quick question fro you more experienced travellers, what have you guys chosen to do re visas? We were thinking that it sounds way easier to deal with them on the border than via post to Paris/London. What do you think?
Your advice on malarone was spot on and we are very grateful for the tip.
We've had confirmation from Exodus that the trip should run as planned now that the Foreign Office have relaxed the travel restrictions and Bangkok has settled down a lot. We're really looking forward to the trip. We've just got to remember to visit our Doctors to get the antimalarial prescriptions!
