APD Essential Peru

Hi Madeleine - I hope you're looking forward to the Peru trip. Unless you're taking the Amazon extension to the Essential Peru, you won't need to take anti-malarials or get a Yellow Fever vaccination. Malaria only occurs in the eastern lowlands of Peru (lower than Machu Picchu) and in the far north of the country, so this trip doesn't visit affected areas. Similarly, Yellow Fever only occurs in the jungle regions, and while the vaccination is not mandatory for anyone visiting Peru (so there will be no problems at the airport) we do always recommend it to anyone travelling to the rainforest, but not to those who are only visiting the highlands and Lima. If you're travelling to other countries afterwards, they may request proof of vaccination if you have been to an affected area, so it is best to take a copy of your itinerary to prove that while in Peru you didn't travel to these lowland areas.
Once again, enjoy the trip, and feel free to ask us any questions about Peru before you travel.
Tim (Exodus trip manager).
