With the festive season upon us I am sure the next seven weeks will pass quickly so I will have to start and get myself organised. Are you hiring any kit in Quito? I will need a helmet and an ice axe as I gave mine away on my last trip to India but hiring locally will save valuable weight when travelling. I have booked a land only package and am flying Lhr to Quito via Madrid on the 9th Feb.The itinerary appears to enable most people to acclimatise alright but you may wish to consider taking Diamox as an extra precaution. This is my first visit to South America and I am really looking forward to it.

I have taken Diamox a few times...and I have had good luck with it at altitude.
