Just wondering who else is going to be on my trip? To say hello and to check what equipment you're taking/not taking? Plus I'm not a fantastic photographer, so I'm hoping that I'm not going to be completely out of my depth!
Nomatter what...I can't wait...it's going to be a great trip!
I'm going on the trip too. I have a Canon 5d mkii and not sure about lenses yet, am considering hiring either a 100-400 or a 500mm f4. I'm hoping not to be out of my depth either! Have you been to Kenya before?
Hey, you're much more advanced than me...
I can see that I'm going to get some camera envy going on here!! I only have a lowly Canon 450D - and have managed to grab a Canon 100-400mm L IS lens off eBay for not a bad price. I am definitely pretty much an amateur - but am hoping to learn lots and maybe upgrade if I'm any good!
No, never been to Kenya before - friends have and they have always raved about it. Be great to just be outdoors of an office and in the wilderness for a while. The ultimate switch off from work!
So...any chance you'll be able to give me some tips when we're there? Or just help me stop looking like an idiot?!! A
Good to hear from you. I've only had my camera for a few weeks, it was a bit of a rash buy when the mirror fell off my 5d. Didn't realise it would only take a week to repair! Should have waited and saved my money, but it's a great camera. Maybe i'll have a look on eBay for a lens too. I'll help any way I can but am no expert. Where is home for you? Maybe we can meet up before the trip. I live in Sussex but am working on a boat overseas at the moment, hoping to be back mid April / early May.
Have you been on any Exodus trips before? A friend did the Inca trail with them last year and said it was good.
I did the photographic safari in 2008. It was completely mixed bunch - from my wife who did not take a camera but just enjoyed the viewing to a professional sports photographer and a complete range in between from non-dslr basic cameras to professional gear. I guarantee that you will get some brilliant photographs - everyone on our trip.
Hey trust me - I am clueless on the technical front - but I am trying to swot up a bit ahead of the trip!
Home for me is Marlow, Bucks - so not a million miles away from you. If we can manage to meet up before the trip, then great. If not, no worries - I'll hopefullly spot you at the airport if you're leaving on the same flight.
I've not been with Exodus before - but have been a few times over the years with their arch rivals - Explore!! They are pretty similar I think (they'll probably hate me saying that) - but Explore don't seem to have quite so many specialist trips like this.
Definitely take a look on eBay for lenses - you can grab some good bargains for sure.
Are you taking a monopod or anything like that? Or do you reckon there'll be no need?
Thanks for your calming words of reassurance - it will be good if there is a wide range of experience/expertise out there photographically-speaking. Is the photography tutor quite as scary as thay suggest?!!
Paul is quite character, full of energy and enthusiasm, and totally non-PC jokes. I dont think anybody found him scary. He wants you to get some great photographs so he's tutoring the group in his vehicle, he really knows his stuff. I learnt more in that week about my camera than I had since I bought it. His driver/guides are really good as well. The vehicles are set up for photography, there's no need for tripods or monopods, bean bags are supplied. Paul uses Canon EOS kit so if you have the same you get the chance to borrow his lenses. Every evening he will critique your photographs, it's all good humoured and fun, as long as you are not too sensitive.
Just to prove that Paul isnt scary, my wife and I are doing the trip to Spitzbergen with him in June to photograph polar bears.
Would be great to meet up before the trip. I'm working overseas at the moment but will be home for a few weeks on 24th April. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Not long to go now!
Well, I am looking forward to it as much as everyone else. I have done a bit of wildlife photography before, but expect this will be in a different league, what with Paul to help along, not to mention the location. I have indulged myself with a new camera and 100-400 zoom, which I am busy getting to know, and liking very much. If anyone wants my web address or email, just ask.
Hi everybody! What camera are you bringing? I may look like your poor relation in camera stakes - plus i need a new lense! I am so worried!!!! The other girls - I am on sussex border but drive all over country - obv not your age but have people to keep me on toes! So glad a chap (aagh how did I use that term!) on trip cos that will help! Welcome!
Would be good to meet up with someone before the trip, I'm home on 24 th April for a few weeks. Can you send me your email address?
Sorry Ginny for not getting back sooner - been a bit way-laid with work & stuff. Not sure I'll definitely be able to manage it (depends on the date) - but happy to swap e-mails & we could then see who can make it out of the four of us for a quick coffee or something somewhere ahead of the trip? My e-mail address is email@example.com. Sorry Jeremy - not sure where in the country you are? I'm in Marlow, Bucks - so I think most of us are fairly southerly?
Getting vaguely organised - have had all jabs done up-to-date and collected anti-malarials! Anybody getting slightly nervous about this volcano stuff?! It's still pumping ash into the atmosphere - just hping it calms down soon as I'll be gutted if the trip gets cancelled :-(
I am in south too... south west to be precise...North Dorset. Anyone want to get in touch is welcome to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org If you are interested you could take a peek at my website... www.allphotography.free-online.co.uk
Really looking forward to the trip, as we all are!
Reading the notes again, I can see Amanda refered the trip to depart on 5th June. I though we are leaving UK on the 4th June... at least my schedule is printed 4th. Are we all leaving on the same day?
Hi, I have received the trip confirmation, so I am sure of which date we are leaving. I was a bit pacnicky about the holidays request set up for work. Sorry
Is eveyone geting the Kenya visa in London?
Hi there, sorry for not managing to reply more quickly. Yes, when I initially logged in to start a post for our trip it used the land only start date and not the outward travel date. Just to confuse everybody!
Yes, plan to get the visa aat the airport. Sounds like it should be pretty straightforward.
Not long now....Amanda
Sorry - mis-read your last question. Not getting visa in London - but at Nairobi airport. I e-mailed Exodux to ask and they seemed to think that most people went for the Nairobi option.
