Anyone going to Burma on trip AON   March 2012?

Hi Fiona :) Myself and my -

Hi Fiona :) Myself and my husband Colin are booked on the 'AON - Discover Burma' tour departing on 3rd March. We can't wait!! I can see from your bio that you've been on 10 Exodus trips so far, so it'll be great to swap notes and ideas for future holidays - we're on our 3rd Exodus trip.

See you in March,

-Julia (& Colin).

Hello Julia and Colin   Yes, I can't wait to go!  I am going to Yangon 3 days early to have a nose round, and am travelling  with 2 friends  - all "girls" - of a certain age.! In my experience there are usually more ladies than gents on these trips!  I have got my visa, as I live near London and it's so much cheaper to do it yourself.  Have you seen the brand new Lonely Planet guide to Myanmar?.  It's only just come out.

See you in the Eastern Hotel

Fiona

My husband John & I will be going on this tour. We recently returned from the Thailand, Laos & Cambodia tour and had a wonderful time with all the U.K. folks. Hope for a great group of new friends. Victoria Alexander

Hello, Just back from visiting our son in Sydney, just got time to clear all paperwork that's landed on our mat in the past month,  catch up with people here - and then it's off again!

Burma - suitcase or backpack? -

What are people's thoughts on this? Suitcase or backpack for main luggage in Burma? Suitcases are a pain to drag around for any great distance over poor quality surfaces, but they're more spaceous and easier to move around on good surfaces.

Packing for Burma -

I always do a lot of shopping so I will be bringing a soft suitcase with wheels. Exodus always has staff that move the luggage so there is not a problem. People also take backpacks along. Its not like we are backpacking across Asia dragging our suitcases everywhere. For camping trips there is a maximum but for Burma everyone will have lots of luggage. And lots of clothes!

I usually take a small rucksack for cabin baggage/day bag, and main luggage - a soft bag on wheels.  I do not take lots of clothes - I wash as I go!!. However, I'm not a fashion icon! , and I've given up buying stuff.   Not taking boots - trainers, Teva sandals, and a pair of 'bejewelled' fitflops I hope will see me through (nb sink plug and washing line are useful . I have heard it can be a bit chilly in places.  I have never had to carry my own baggage much further than from my room to bus, with Exodus. Hope that is helpful Not long to go now!  Best wishes

Fiona

Hi Fiona, Well, sorry you are not on our trip! A friend from Exodus Ethiopia will be joining our trip, but no other members of our group have signed in. So it will be a surprise to meet them. Victoria Alexander
