Hi Glen,I'm on this trip -

Hi Glen,I'm on this trip too. Can't wait, pretty much have everything sorted now except a winter jacket as no shops seem to be stocking them (surprising mid-summer).

Any books or articles on Kili that you would recommend?

Harry

Hi -

Phew thought that maybe i was going alone :o)

Kilimanjaro: The trekking guide to africa's highest mountain by Henry Stedman

this book has helped me loads, with detailed description and maps of our route, clothing and equipment.

I have not got a Downs Jacket either, was thinking of doing more layers and then my gortex jacket on top, but other than that i'm ready too.

I been watching a few UTube videos of other peoples trip, well nearly all of them i could find to be honest, cant wait know

Hi Glen & Harry -

Am planning to do this trip next August and would like to know did you need the down jacket (and any other tips you can pass along please) as I too plan to do what Glen did doing layers under jacket.

Would really appreciate any tips you think worth sharing

Thanks!

Hi -
Should be fine, i got altitude sickness and did not go past Kibo Huts thou so summit night i cant advise on sorry. One tip, hire your sleeping mat. its a thick mat they use and they will also carry it. I used my own and had to carry it in my exodus holdall plus pack it away each morning. Its a great adventure, and i always felt safe even thou i got ill.

thanks -
thanks for the info Glen

I did it in August 2 years -

I did it in August 2 years ago and had a down jacket and would definately recommend it. A friend did it not long after me and I did her a document with the bits of advice I gave (by the way we both reached the summit). If you want me to send it - email lizsandell@hotmail.co.uk

All the best Liz

Hire one -

Hi there.

I did this trip in December and I hired the sleeping mat, walking poles and the down jacket from Exodus. All great quality and the sleeping mat was really good. The down jacket was very warm (I don't 'do' being cold) and I could fit many layers underneath. I probably wore too many layers as I got warm soon after we started walking.

Hi Liz, thanks for the doc you sent me before I left - very useful.
