Clothing for Desert Camping -
Trip - AYL - LIBYAN DESERT EXPLORER, Departure Date - Saturday 13th March 2010

What kind and how much warm clothing should I bring for Sahara Desert camping in April?  Will I be comfortable sleeping outside in a 3 season sleeping bag in regular clothing?

Also, is the water provided safe to drink or do I need to bring water purification tablets or a SteriPen?

Hi,

A 3-season sleeping bag will be sufficient for the April departure and these are so warm within that you don't need too much supplementary clothing other than normal night time gear. In April there is the possibility of strong winds coming from the south which will cause quite high daytime temperatures whilst walking. But if the wind comes from the north it can be quite cool. We recommend lightweight walking pants and t-shirts are fine with fleeces and waterproofs just in case of a downpour of rain. It is alright to wear shorts in the desert but out of respect for the guides and local culture most people still tend to stick to very lightweight walking trousers.

With regards to the water the bottled water provided is safe to drink.

All the best, Andy
