R&R / Scuba Diving in Cuba

has anyone out there ever extended a trip to Cuba and stayed at a beach resort?
Is anyone booked on the Isla Grande trip for mid July?

I've seen some horrid reports on trip advisor (food poisoning/stealing from hotel rooms), so am a little nervous of booking an extension, bu I love to dive and the trip sounds busy, so a few days afterward by the pool/beach would be lovely! The reports from the Exodux trips seem great, but I don't hear anything about the quality of the hotels. I'm hoping to tag on some diving and a few days R&R after the busy Isla Grande trip in July.

Any tips or how/where to reliably book good quality beach hotels/diving near Havana as Exodus can't help with this which is a pity.

There would be better alternatives on other Caribbean islands. I went to Cuba (with Exodus on La Isla Grande) in 2010 and I absolutely loved the place, but Cuban 5* isn't global 5*.

I didn't notice any suitable dive locations along the malecon, but I had been injecting Havana Club for almost two weeks...
