Cuba - La Isla Grande

My husband and two sons (20 at Uni and nearly 17 in Sixth Form) are all coming on what is an early 50th birthday treat for me. We fly in to Gatwick on the Weds evening to be ready for the Virgin group flight on the Thursday morning.

Really looking forward to it as I have wanted to visit Cuba for quite a while. Just need to practice some Spanish and salsa before we go!

I have only just realised that everyone has replied (and I lost my log in details!) Glad to hear there is not just me travelling on this trip! I've been trying to learn a bit of Spanish but so far am restricted to the basis! Also think need to get practicising drinking those mojitos!

 Has anyone been with Exodus before? I havent, and am not having a good time-my travel documents have supposedly been sent three times and have never arrived! Has everyone received their visas? Just checked the weather forecast-looks amazing (espcially compared to how cold it is here in the UK!)

Hi Becca (and everyone else)

We have had the visas in the post but nothing else.  I had an email at the end on Jan to say that everything else would come by email 2/3 weeks beforehand so I haven't worried about the rest yet. It is our first time with Exodus too.

We have a friend who  travels to Cuba quite regularly.  He has given us quite a lot of advice but it is mainly what is in the guide books.  The only important things before departure are to bring your currency in good condition with no marks etc,  bring any medicines you might need and bring plenty of insect repellent because of the mosquitoes which can carry Dengue fever (lots of paracetamol is the treatment).  I'm sure the old hands will know all of this but thought it was worth sharing.

He gave us a quick salsa lesson apparently it is all in the hip movement! Probably easier after a few mojitos.

We used Exodus this time last year for a camping trip around Namibia and it was excellent, could not fault any of it. So dont worry it will all be good.

Have had our visa posted to us the day after we booked and every thing else will come by e-mail in the next week or so, I am sure.

Hi all Documents have arrived in the end! My visa was in the post-tickets are electronic for the flights I think anyway.. Thanks for the hints Katherine, always useful..are you just taking English currency and no euros? I'm thinking that maybe easier? Thanks Becca

Becca glad to hear you finallly got your visa.  We were just planning to take Sterling probably should have bought some Euros before the £ devalued but I think it is too late now!  Let's hope it recovers a bit before we arrive.

I consulted my 'Cuban source' and it is the 2 pin flat as per USA.  You need to check if any UK 2 round pin stuff like a toothbrush charger will fit, if not you need to get a 2 round pin to UK standard 3 pin adapter as well!

I can't wait to be somewhere warm !

No long now, 2 days and we will be getting on the plane. Can't wait for some warm weather.

Just driven through light snow/hail here on the Isle of Man.  I'm getting nervous about our flight off the Island tomorrow evening.  Everything crossed that the weather doesn't get worse!
