Essential Peru - 19th November Departure
Hi Michelle
I will be on this trip. Good luck for your flight connections to Lima. This trip includes so much. Am looking forward to it. Another 5 months to go...
Thierry
Nice to hear you are on the trip. Sounds like a fantastic place and the trip is very comprehensive. I am travelling with aother friend from Malta and we are both taking the Amazon extension. We are travelling via New York to split the journey in 2 legs and hopefully stop in NY for a bit of Xmas shopping on the way back ;-)
Michelle
Glad you sorted your flights already. I'm not taking the Amazon extension as I have to be in Buenos Aires early December but I'm sure you'll enjoy that part as well. I went to the Amazon area when I was in Ecuador and enjoyed it a lot. See you in November in Lima.
Cheers
Thierry
I'm thinking of booking this trip - plus the Amazon extension. Will be travelling independently as well.
Bit more last minute for me but have always wanted to visit Peru!
Hope to see you both in November. Is there anyone else out there who has booked yet?
Emma.
Hi Emma
the last time I spoke to Exodus there were 9 booked on this trip. That is including myself and Sara, travelling together and Thierry who wrote in here too. Sara and I will both be taking the Amazon extension. We will be meeting the group in Lima as not taking the group flights. Sounds like an amazing trip and can't wait. Might see you in Lima then!!
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
Great to hear from you and thanks for letting me know the numbers.
It sounds like a wonderful trip - have a great time. Hopefully I can make the dates work out!
Emma
Hi Thierry
Are you planning to get any summer clothes with you like shorts & bermudas? do you have any ideas of temperatures. I'm a bit confused as to what to get with me. Will you be getting a sleeping bag?
Michelle
Hi Michelle
I am taking summer clothes anyway with me as by the time I get to Buenos Aires after this trip it will be summer there.
As for our trip it is a bit tricky indeed as we will travel a lot through the highlands, above 3000m, thus even if we have temps around 20C daytime, it gets very chilly at night (I always remember the minus 36C we had one night in Bolivia, but that was in June and where we travel it should still be around 0 at night). However, we also travel along the coastline where, if not foggy, it could be quite nice, especially when we will be for a day near Ica in a desert oasis. So I think it might be wise to take a short and some sandals as well, but also some warm clothing for the nights in the highlands and of course arainproof jacket.
I think Exodus will send us a few weeks before travel a packing list as far as I remember from the Nepal trip I did with them. I'm not taking a sleeping bag along as I like to travel light but I might take a small bedfleece with me in case it gets cold at night in the room.
Another good month to go and we will be there!
I am arriving in the morning (around 7 am) with LAN from Madrid. When will you arrive as you are not taking the group flight ?
Hasta muy pronto!
Cheers
Thierry
Thanks Thierry
I had been on a similar trip to Mexico/Guatemala so I think I will take similar stuff since that trip also had a few stops at altitude. Sara and I arrive at about 7.30 AM with the LAN flight from NY. I have asked Exodus to try and arrange for an early check-in otherwise we will just dump our stuff at the hotel and I am hoping to be fit enough to go round Lima a bit as we don't really ever get to see the city since we leave early the next day. Can't wait now. I'm sure it will be a fantastic trip.
Might get back to you with some questions later....hope you don't mind!
Michelle
Hi everyone,
I'm sara, and really looking forward to this trip. I'm travelling to Lima from Malta with Michelle, and I've just read Thierry's posts - you're arriving in Lima about the same time as we are - maybe it would be smart to try to get a taxi together to the hotel ??
countdown - 6weeks to go :0)
Sara
Hi Sara
fancy meeting you in here :-) thanks for showing up.
michelle
Perfect as we get in at 7.15am with LA531 from NY. We'll look out for each other and unless there is a delay we can share the taxi.
Michelle
No malaria pills needed for my part at least, we will be either at elevation or in the dry desert. For the Amazaon part you do that's another story.
Thierry
Hi Thierry
just wanted to tell you that Sara and I have arranged with the Miraflores hotel for an early check-in. After a long flight I doubt I'd want to wait till 3 pm to check in. I checked with the hotel and they quoted $47 for an early check in. I also asked them to send us their transport and the price they asked for is Sol50 which is pretty much what the trip notes suggest. After a long flight I would appreciate having someone waiting for me at the airport and I don't need to haggle for a taxi. A bit worried about the weather to be honest since we're flying through NY and there were snow storms this weekend. hope all clears up by the time we have to travel.
See you in 3 weeks!

Yes I did receive the final joining instructions and I had asked for the name of the hotel a while ago as I wanted to check about early check-in and transport which is now sorted. Transport will be there and we can all hop on as we had planned. First hotel is Hotel Antigua Miraflores. You can either ask Exodus for the final joining instructions or if you give me your email i'll send them to you. up to you!
Michelle
Hi Thierry
I actually didn't seeing that we will be arriving at the same time but now that you mention it and if you want I wil go back to them and tell them that we will be arriving on separate flights so that they know they have to wait for 2 different flights. We depart on friday the 18th in the morning and its one long travelling day malta - london - new york - lima. We will be actually stopping in NY for 5 days on our way back. We decided to take the malaria pills even though we're in the amazon for only 3 days. I heard there are a lot of mosquitos there and did not want to take the chance. I'm surprised no one else wrote in this blog....
Started sorting out clothes and other stuff yesterday so i'm getting very excited now!
See you soon.
Mich
Hi Michelle & Sara
I emailed the hotel with my flight details and told them to arrange both pickups together if our flights are not delayed.
You girls surely did choose the long way to Lima, I leave in the late evening on the 18th from Brussels via Madrid direct to Lima with LAN.
See you in a good week.
Thierry

Is anyone booked on this trip? Just about to book once I sort out a way to get there since not going on group flights.
