Essential Peru - Island Homestay

You're right that the families you'll be staying with on Amantani do really appreciate a small gift, but it's not something you need to prepare for in advance. We find that practical items are the best gifts to take, and our tour leader always take the groups to a local supermarket and will suggest items you may like to buy - rice, vegetable oil and candles are common items to take as they're not readily available on the island and getting to the mainland to purchase them involves a fairly long journey in their non-motorised boats.
