Hi John, I will be joining you on this trek with my friend Moira. Really looking forward to it and meeting the rest of the group.
Hello, Denny! Yes, I'm looking forward to it too. Just a little bit apprehensive about how strenuous it will be, so I'm getting some training in on the Scottish hills! Have you done anything like this before?
Presumably everyone travelling from London will meet up at Heathrow and check in together.
Hi John, little bit apprehensive ourselves, the trip seems to have come round so quickly and haven't done as much training as we had planned, but did Kilimanjaro in Feb so we should still be fairly fit. You're definately in the best place for training up there, very envious! Guess most of you will meet up at Heathrow, i will be spending 10days in Ghana before the trip so will catch up with you all at the hotel.
For anyone going on this trip, here is some useful info I got from the Exodus people:
The group will be returning to the hotel in Addis, day rooms are provided for those on the late night flight like yourself, which means you will be able to leave items at the hotel in Addis while you are on trek. Alternatively you will be able to leave stuff at the hotel in Gondor if you prefer as you will return to the same place there as well.
Hello everyone...just starting to get excited about this trip and hope that the altitude will be kind to me. It was alright in Peru....Looking forward to meeting everyone. Greetings to all from Toronto Canada.
Thanks for info John, thinking maybe Gondor is best to leave stuff if we have enough time there to get cleaned up, then have a rest at Addis Ababa before flying home to normality!!!!
Hello Grace, looking forward to meeting you too. I went to Peru with Exodus a couple of years ago - the Inca Trail trek. Was that what you did too?
Denny, yes, I think Gondor is the best bet. A tip I was given from someone who has done a few Exodus trips is to pack the Exodus bag empty in a larger suitcase, along with the stuff you won't need on trek, then pack the Exodus bag at your last stop before the trek, in this case Gondor, and leave the locked suitcase there. The baggage allowance on the external and internal flights is 20k, but I'll try to put heavy items in my carry-on luggage. Bound to run out of fresh clothes with 10 days on trek, but we'll all be in the same boat and hopefully won't notice how smelly we all are!!! Not sure if there are showers at any of the camp sites.
I just received this morning a neat little Simien Mountains map I ordered from Stanfords in London. At 1:100000 and 100m contour intervals it's not ideal for trekking, but I'm still impressed with it.
Hi Grace, looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the group, i believe there will be 17 of us... when do you arrive in Addis Ababa? I will be arriving at 20.50 on 4th as i am spending time in Ghana prior to the trek.
Hi, I'm really excited about the trip too! But having a few problems trying to find things to take! I'm living in South Sudan, where it's impossible to buy anything, and will be joining the trip in Addis, where I was told that I would be able to buy a sleeping bag and mat but I'm worried that it may not happen! Does anyone have a spare sleeping bag or mat that I could borrow or would anyone be willing to bring one if I ordered something online and had it sent to your house? A big ask I know!
I'll be arriving in Addis on Thursday so if anyone is around for the weekend and fancies meeting up get in touch!
