Everest Base Camp 6th October - Are you going?

Hi Zoe,

Pleased to meet you. I'm booked up and looking forward to it. I was supposed to go on this trip back in April but the volcanic ash cloud put a stop to it. I've have had an extra 6 months to think about what to pack... and I still keep changing my mind :) I've never done anything like this before so not sure if I'm excited or scared (probably both). Any pointers or words of advice are always greatly appreciated.

I'm booked on this trip as a solo traveller....very excited! How are you both and where are you guys from in the UK?

I am currently in the process (still) of buying things for this trip and have no idea whether I have too much or too little...guess it's only a short while to wait until I find out.

Would be great to hear back from either of you especially on whether you have done something like this before. Are you flying from London?

Hi Alex and Yamini, Alex, that must have been so annoying not to be able to make the trip earlier in the year, it must have seemed like a long wait, but it's nearly here :-).. I live in Kingston-upon-Thames, just ouside of London and thankfully not that far from Heathrow. I am flying out of Heathrow on the 6th, so would be great to meet up with anyone else that is also on that flight. I am also a solo traveller, and the nearest thing that I have done to this was the Incra trail, which I did a few years ago, which I absolutely loved! Like both of you I am struggling with the what to take issue at the moment.. Two weeks today and we'll be there, how exciting! I can't believe it. Zoe

Have either of you received your kit bag? I am still waiting, and mildly worried now! I am sure it's on its way given I have chased it...probably my fault given I booked so late... So have you done much training? I have tried to, but I wouldn't say I have been incredibly successful...only a matter of time will tell. I guess the Inca trail would have been ace training despite it being a couple of years ago. I'm struggling to determine how much to pack, think I am going to have to be ruthless in order to comply with the weight restrictions! I have been told that a head torch is a good idea...so if you dont have one, it may be worth investing. Other than that, no additional tips on extra things....do you had any additional tips? Yamini

Hello Yamini, I am not on your rip but am on the one that goes on the 10th Oct so we may see you on your way back. We have also not received our kit bags but am told they were sent on the 14th Sept. I am also told that they have none left at the moment but are getting some in on the 2nd Oct and they will send by next day delivery, therefore i would give Exodus a shout. Hi all Yamini, I got my kit bag a couple of weeks after booking, hopefully yours will be with you soon. Not sure if I am going to fit everything in my kit bag, might have a bit of a practise pack this weekend. Have got a headtorch, so that is good. Does anyone know what the temperature has been like out there recently? I keep getting mixed messages on how cold/ or not cold it will be.... Zoe

Hi all, just read on another post that we will require 2 x passport photos for our visas. I wasnt' aware of that, so will go out and get those this weekend (you might have already known...) Zoe

What are peoples plans on packing their clothes and equipment? I was going to put the empty kit bag into a suitcase along with all my kit and clothes. When I get to the hotel I can then pack the kit bag and leave the rest behind in the suitcase... I will also carry a day backpack. Does this sound right? Alex

Thanks Zoe re. luggage. A few people have given me some pointers on things that I should take. Throat spray / tablets - because it can be a bit dusty if the wind picks up. Eye drops - same reason as above Aspirin - helps thin your blood to reduce effect of altitude Cereal bars instead of chocolate - the chocolate will melt during the day Wear your walking boots when travelling - if your case goes missing you can buy everthing else but you cant wear in a new pair of walking boots. Spare laces - for your walking boots Toilet Roll - just in case Chargers for cameras etc. - there should be plenty of places to charge Spare passport photos - incase we need to get permits for the mountain. Someone also mentioned that the baggage limit on the flight to Lukla does not include your backpack but i'm not sure on this? Any other things that aren't on the kit list but you think may be useful please let me know.

Hi All, I'm belatedly joining the forum on the off-chance that anyone checks it between now & Wednesday. You can take this is a good indication of my general preparedness, as opposed to Alex who by now must be the most organised of the trippers. I'm flying from Heathrow on the 6th with my old mate Alan (that's right however you read it) so look forward to meeting you (Zoe & Yamini & Alex ?) on the flight Thanx for the advice on throat stuff & passport photos ...cheers Jim
