Gifts for Children -

Hi,

I'm travelling to india for the first time on Saturday - what is the etiquette re taking small gifts for local children e.g crayons and paper? Friends of mine have taken these previously.

 Any thoughts and advice appreciated.

Hi there,

It very much depends on the individual trip as to whether this is appropriate or not. In general our advice would be not to, however on some trips we do manage to stop at schools where it may be more appropraite to give such donations. You can always take a few things and then consult your leader about this.

Please always make sure things are given in a formal way rather than to 1 or 2 children who are asking for them on the streets or around the tourist sites; this only encourages begging.

Many thanks,

Katherine (India Trip Manager)
