Booked the High Inca Trail for May; really excited!
Just thought I'd start a thread; I'll definitely have plenty of questions as the trip gets closer.
I booked onto this trip over a year ago so very excited now it's getting closer. I've now started my finess regime - it should have started months ago but it just seemed so far away...
I'm flying to Madrid from Heathrow on Saturday 11th. I've already had a tip that you need to collect luggage at Lima and check in for the internal flight in Peru, even if the main airline says it's checked in all the way. And not to indulge in too many pisco sours although I intend to try at least one!
I was chatting to someone this week that has done this trip, and he scared me half to death! I think I need to get out walking soon, and start buying all the stuff I need.
He's going to send me a checklist soon, so I can share it with you if you like.
What is your fitness regime? I'm fit, but not in walking way!
I'm on the same flight as you I think.
That would be great if you could share the checklist with me when you receive it. I'm sure there is loads of stuff I need to get.
My fitness regime is just 2-3 gym visits a week where I am mainly using the treadmill for a mixture of running and then walking on a high incline. I am then trying to get out for a longish walk each week so today I have out with friends and walked 10 miles. It was all quite flat though - I could really do with some hills to practice on! I am about an hour away from the peak district so I am going to try and fit some walks in around that area, weather permitting.
From what I've read it isn't the distance of walking we will do that will cause any problems - it is the steepness and the altitude.
I have just been checking out the hotel we are probably staying in - looks really nice. Exodus said they usally stay here so I hope they haven't changed it. It's the Tiki Wasi.
Yeah; I'm about 30 minutes from the Peak District so I'm going to head that way too, probably when the weather gets a bit better.
I go to the gym a similar amount to you, but I hadn't thought to walk on a high incline; I think I'll try that.
The hotel does look nice :-)
Wondered if your friend had sent you the checklist yet?
Hope your training is going well. I walked 18 miles last Friday around Castleton, Grindleford etc but I probably won't get chance to go again until late April. I will just have to try harder at the gym :-)
Not long now, hope everyones feeling fit! Me and my mate will be flying from Heathrow on the Saturday 11th. Be good to meet up at the airport.
I too would be interested to meet up at Heathrow. Travelling solo - I have brown curly hair and will have a grery ruck sack (how boring)and will be wearing grey walking boots.
Am getting really excited about the trip.

Meeting up at Heathrow sounds a good idea. I will have a grey/red rucksack and an orange/grey coat.
I will try and be at the Weatherspoons pub for 5pm and hope to see everyone there. Not flown from Heathrow before so if Im not there I will be wandering aimlessly around Terminal 5!
