Hi, i'm booking this trip next month and I was wondering if there are any other people out there planning to go on this trip.
Its my first trip by myself and i'm a little nervous. Would be good to chat to some fellow travellers.
I'm booked on this trip and am so looking forward to it. Don't be nervous, it sounds a great trip in a fascinating country. Although ... I hadn't realised the depature date is World Cup Final day!
I didn't realize that. Although I'm not an avid football fan, Im was hoping to watch that but I imagine it will be aired everywhere around the airport anyway. Are you departing from London?
Have you made your booking yet? This will be my first Exodus trip and as I will be travelling on my own, I thought it would be good to make contct with you.
In one way I'm quite apprehensive but in another, am really excited and looking forward to it. I'm sure we will meet some really great like-minded travellers and enjoy sharing the experiences which this trip will no doubt provide.
Would be nice to 'chat' over the next few months prior to the trip.
I literally just booked my place on the trip approximately 5 minutes ago. There is no going back now.
I think i'm in the same boat as you. I'm excited about the trip but apprehensive also.
I am leaving from London. Are you both too? I must confess to being that sad I have started thinking about what to take already :) :) I agree with you Jane, I think there will be some great people on the trip and I am sure you will both have a amazing time.
Did you guys maybe wanna meet at the airport, outside the terminal or something? It would be a good chance for us to meet each other, and quite frankly some of us are terrible at navigating airports, and ive never been to heathrow before.
Heathrow is no problem (as long as you head for the right terminal I guess). Meeting up is a good idea. Last year it was still the usual "arrive 3 hours prior to departure" thing going on, I am guessing that probably hasn't changed so will have plenty of time :D
Hi Becca and Clu
I'm nearly ready to book my space on this trip and have indeed got a space reserved until this coming Friday. I called the Exodus office today and have been told that there are 8 people booked on already, so no we're means lone travellers! The 8 consist of mainly females (of varying age from late teens to 50s (and I myself am an old-stager at 51!)), a couple (apparently it's not exclusively for solo travellers) and a couple on guys on the 'reserved place' list, like myself.
I think it will be fun and I'm pretty sure to confirm my seat by Friday; that being the case, of course we can arrange to meet up at Heathrow prior to check-in. I travel quite a bit but remember how daunting it was to go somewhere new, where things were different. Don't worry Becca, we'll take care of you! Where do you live? We could perhaps get to meet up before we actually go...... Food for thought and only if you want to.....
Catch you later
No turning back for me now - I've just paid-up and confirmed my booking!
Fantastic - I can't wait.
See you all on 11th July at LHR, if not before.
I'm also booked on this trip, flying from Heathrow though will be arriving from Manchester first. I've travelled with Exodus and have few similar companies a few times (last time to Peru). I'm really looking forward to the trip
Hello to all,
I'm also booked on this trip, and really looking forward to it. I've not travelled much before, and same as Becca this is my first solo trip so I'm a little nervous too. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Hi everyone, I'm booked on this trip too. Really looking forward to it - will we need to remember to shake our boots for scorpions after the night in the bedouin camp? (...not really - just teasing!).
I'm coming over from Guernsey, so I shall be leaving from Gatwick on a different flight. Sounds like I'll miss out on the pre-flight get-to-know you at Heathrow (sniff). But I am sure we can all make up for that in Casablanca!
Anyone else leaving from Gatwick?
Scorpions ... good grief ... hadn't given much thought to the wildlife before ... thanks for that Quintin :( At least I've stopped worrying about spending 4 hours stuck on a dromedary in the scorching sun.... lol
Well I was only kidding... and I almost feel sorry I mentioned it now, but you might like to google "do scorpions live in Morocco". I have just done that and erm... I think the answer is 'yes'. According to one web site it is normal routine to shake out your clothes, shoes and bedding. The good news seems to be that we don't have to worry about lions or cobras. Still - we all wanted to go somewhere exotic right? Well I'd say that's pretty exotic! Realistically though - it is hardly likely that we are going to be taken anywhere that dangeous!
See you all soon. Quintin.
Don't worry Quintin! All info is good ... To be fair I lived 7 years in Australia as a kid so sort of used to biting insects, not really scared. Am now more concerned about missing the Cup Final depending on kick off times ... I know, I am that sad.
Does anyone reckon we will need like "full-on" walking boots for the Atlas Mountains at all?
Looking forward to meeting you all :)
I've been speaking to someone who went on the same trip in April - she thought that a good pair of walking shoes would be OK - thats what I'm going to wear, rather than lug my boots around for 2 weeks in the warm conditions. She said the paths were pretty/quite good and didnt think that full on boots would be absolutely/totally necessary. Having said that, I read somewhere (and of course they would be) that boots are better than shoes, for keeping the sand out in the desert, so guess the choice is one we all have to make for ourselves. As said, I shall wear walking shoes/trainer type thingys.
Catch you all later
Cheers for that. Will follow your advice! See you soon
Silly question for the girls on this trip... I've been reading about dressing conservatively in Morocco, but given the very hot temperatures I wondered what we would get away with. What are all of you wearing in terms of trousers/long skirts/long-sleeves? I've not been to a muslim country before so have no idea what to expect.
Any advice would be appreciated!
I'm making sure I take a decent supply of long, loose cotton shirts and some cotton shawls that I can roll up and whip out of my bag when needed. I tend to feel more comfortable in thin cotton trousers anyway, but also packing a couple of long skirts for evenings in the cities. I think you are OK in the main cities but out in the villages it is stricter.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Not long to go now and we'll be off on our travels - I wonder what the next couple of weeks have in store for us - lots of fun and amazement, I hope and am sure!!
Was thinking about meeting up at LHR and seats on the flight. As far as I could make out, the airline don't have an online check-in facility, so I rang the Exodus office yesterday and got both my out and return bound seats reserved. I'm sure that some of you have also done this but if not, and anyone would like to sit together/close by, I suggest that you call the office and ask for seats close to 12F on the way out and 11F on the return.
Anyone want to arrange to meet up before check-in on Sunday?
See you all soon.
Would be good to meet up at the airport before we check in. I had intended to get there at least 3hrs before we fly so if you wanted to meet up then I'd be up for that.
Let me know and I'll give you my mobile number to contact me on.
Hi All, As I've got an early start on Sunday I've treated myself to sometime in the Lounge before boarding so I'll probably check in early and go up there. I will keep my eye out for everyone though.
I rang Exodus up to reserve seats, but was told they can only request seats but can't confirm, I've asked for ailse as I get claustrophobic! If we don't bump into each other at the airport I'll come and tap the shoulder of whoever is in seat 12F on the plane.
Hi Jane. Sounds like a plan. If I don't see you first, I'm quite tall & slim with long brown hair. I'll probably be looking a little lost and will also be dragging a black hold-all with Exodus luggage label.
Can't wait ;-)
I should be arriving at LHR about 3ish but i'll try and get there a little earlier. Meeting up outside WH Smiths sounds good, I'm tall (5ft 11), blonde and possibly in the presence of my mum who will be seeing me off. Im going to be the baby of the group I think, being only 18 but I do act much older.
Just one question what are you guys doing in terms of money cause Morocco is a closed currency country. I was going to bring my card and use an ATM when we land in Casablanca and bring £50 cash just in case.
I am bringing most of mine in Euro's and will get it changed when I get to Casablanca. I've only done this because I wasn't sure how accessible the ATM's are in comparison to some of the places we are visiting, but thinking about it, in the cities there should be quite a few.
Hope this helps.
Would love to meet up, I too shall endeavour to make it to Smiths by 3pm. I would love to say I am Elle MacPherson's body double but sadly that would be a lie .. :( I am 5' 11" dragging along a black bag with the obligatory Exodus luggage label. Shoulder length-ish brown hair. 07986612731 if I don't make it!!
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday
Look forward to meeting up with everyone on Sunday but, to avoid any confussion, please note the suggested meeting place I mentioned in previous message......
""I understand that there is WH Smiths and a coffee shop, opposite the middle entrance door on the departure level of Terminal 4. Unless anyone else has a better suggestion, shall we meet just inside this door? ""
So, just inside the the entrance door, which is opposite WH Smiths and a coffee shop, not outside/by WH Smiths. I just wanted to make this clear as there may or may not be lots of people there on Sunday afternoon and it would be a shame if some were in one place and others in another - even if they are only feet apart, we would have the potential to miss eachother.
See 'whoever' there!
