Is anyone else booked on this trip? This will be my third trip with Exodus and I'm getting excited, after a last minute decision to go away again!
I've heard amazing things about India so we should have a fantastic time.
This will be my second Exodus trip and I too decided on this one fairly last minute! Looking forward to it though, just need to get my visa sorted....and pretty soon too. Not long now!
I'm also booked on this trip, this is only my second Exodus trip and the last one was nearly six years ago, so I'm unbelievably excited :)
Lots to sort out though...
Where are you both travelling from?
I still feel like I have lots to do too.....and there doesn't seem to be much time left! I will be travelling down from Liverpool..what about you? What are you doing re malaria tabs out of interest??
I'm coming from near Birmingham, to be honest I haven't done anything about malaria tablets yet, but it is on my (giant) to do list, I'm just going to pick some up from the chemist.
I only decided to book this the other day so everything's a bit last minute.
I'm wondering what to pack as well - do you think we have to be completely covered up at all times? Sarah X
I think it will depend on where we are but I think I will be taking some loose tops that are cool but keep me covered, but I imagine that for the most part we will need to keep covered up. I booked a couple of weeks ago but haven't had much time to get anything sorted until now....I have filled out the annoying visa form and just have to send it off now...!
Hi Sarah & Debbie,
I'm coming from down south (Berkshire). V excited but now slightly worried that I don't realise all the things I need to be doing as you both seem to have lots to do!
I've sent off for my visa and I had all the jabs for my other trips so that's covered. My to do list is just charge camera batteries, get travellers chqs, and think about what to pack! I've ordered my rough guide from Amazon and that should turn up this week. What have I missed?!
I don't think we need to be fully covered at all times (check out some of the photos on the trip notes) but I guess it's a decency thing.....no mini skirts and micro shorts! We should probably carry something to hand like a scarf / wrap thing to cover shoulders etc should we need to, plus I think we will need something warmer to put on for the early morning starts.
One tip I have for the train is to buy a sleeping bag liner. I took a cotton one when I went overnight on a train in Vietnam and slept in that rather than use the sheets they provide. It was nice as I knew it was clean so I felt I could snuggle up in it without worrying. They don't take much space in your luggage.
I can't wait to explore the markets for scarfs and jewellery!
the sleeping bag liner sounds like a great idea, thanks :)
I've also just sorted my travel insurance, malaria tablets, jabs and plug socket convertor things.
Got my visa, I think I just need to organise money now, as well as what to pack.
I'm getting really excited, 27 days to go!!!!!! :D
A couple more tips I have picked up from my Rough Guide:
Take a pillow case - I guess this is along the same lines as a sleeping bag liner? (nice and clean!)
Universal sink plugs as most hotels etc don't have them.
Ear plugs - it gets noisy!
Flip flops to use in the shower (you can pick up worms through your feet!)
Tampons - apparently they are like gold dust to get hold of in India!.
I'm going to carry a pashmina with me that I can easily throw around me if I need to cover up - other than that just need to pack also!
Not long to go!!! Getting very excited and that's just at the prospect of being off work for 2 weeks!! Think I've got most things now, maybe just a few last bits and bobs and of course I need to pack....once I've decided what to take!
Are you both sorted yet?!
I notice someone is mentioning taking malaria tablets. If you look at the Foreign Office website you will see that they are not currently required for the areas you will visit on this trip. Nobody took them when we went on the same trip last October. We also survived quite nicely without flip flops in the shower and the linen on the training was extremely clean. I would take some hand gel though. We were scrupulous about using it before and after eating and visits to the loo and neither of us were ill. There is no problem getting hold of bottled water to drink either. It was a great trip, fast paced and covered a lot of ground, but great fun.
Hi again Mel and Debbie,
I wondered if you fancied meeting up in Heathrow if you're also flying from there on Monday?
We could pass the usually excruciatingly boring wait between check in and boarding together :)
My number's 07967 592464 if either of you want it,
That sounds good....I think I'm due to get to Heathrow at around 5pm depending on how on time my train is...! I will text you when I'm there then if that's ok.
See you Monday!
That's fine Debbie, I think I should be getting there at about 5.20pm.
Look forward to meeting you on Monday :)
