Hi Slim, I am going from Amsterdam ( 10.45 ) but flying from Manchester. Starting to panic about what to bring and how fit i need to be? ( ha ha we only have one mountain on Isle of Man but lots of small hills ) also my Doc has said i do not need malaria tablets but have read that some people do take them, What are you doing ?
I am on the 10-45 from Amsterdam as well, at least you have snaefell and peel mountains to practise on there are no peaks at all in Suffolk. As long as you are reasonably fit you will be fine I am 63 today and went to Everest base camp 2 years ago. That was my first introduction to trekking. You can be as fit as you like but you cannot train for altitude, I never had any problems last time just a slight headache each morning which a couple of anadin soon put right.
Happy Birthday ! and look forward to hear all about your Everest trip ! This will be my first trekking hol !!!! Glad I am not the only one coming from Amsterdam as I think we have about an hours wait in Peru for the London flight to get in and our pick up to hotel
There were a few on the Everest trip who had done the Inca trail and said it was terrific. A couple of them recommended me to fly from Amsterdam they said it was a good flight. I am starting to sort my gear out to take I knew expect in the Himalayas not quite so sure here.
Did a 14 mile training walk at the weekend ! now just got to do it with a backpack on and in altitude with no wine in the garden at the end !!
The hardest bit I found on the Everest trip was the aching across the backpack for the first two or three days. I intend to do some walking with a backpack on for a while before I go,
